The Truth About Data Entry Jobs on the Internet

Data Entry, Data Entry Jobs

With the vast number of people who want to find a way to work from home, many with limited education or finances, data entry jobs are one of the most popular types of home-based jobs searched for. Almost anyone who can use the internet feels that they are well qualified for data entry work, and they probably are.

The problem with most advertised data entry opportunities, is that they are not what they claim to be.

Finding an actual telecommuting job on the internet that deals with data entry or typing is nearly impossible. People that telecommute usually have real world contact with the company by which they are employed.

Most internet data entry jobs are looking to do one of two things: make you pay a fee for information about how to make money doing data entry from home, or use you as an independent marketing contractor.

If you know this from the start, you are much more likely to succeed in finding something that you can do and make money with online.

Pay Money To Learn How to Profit From Data Entry

If an advertisement suggests that you must pay money for information on how to earn money through data entry, ignore it. Not only is this information freely available on the internet, you should never have to pay to get a job or independent contractor, also called freelance, contract.

On many scam watch websites, the first sign of a potential scam is asking for money for information on how to profit. More than likely, the information they give you will be how to be the next item on my list, an independent marketing contractor.

Become an Independent Marketing Contractor

Many of the data entry opportunities that are advertised all over the web are actually cleverly disguised affiliate marketing programs. Once you are aware of this, you can easily tell what you are getting into. Affiliate marketing is not a scam; it is a genuine way of making money online. But, it is not data entry.

Getting involved in this type of data entry opportunity consists, usually, of signing up for an affiliate program and then entering data: namely classified ads, forum and blog posts, and articles, with intent to sell a product or service. The program only pays you if you make sales.

Do “Data Entry” on Your Own

Taking the previous information, you can easily see that it is not necessary to sign up for some sketchy data entry opportunity in order to profit. If you are reasonably good at writing, you can sign up to affiliate programs and market them on your own. It’s not what I would call data entry, but it is a viable way to make an income online.

Of course, if genuine data entry employment is what you are looking for, you should approach employers offline and apply for positions that way. It might be possible to find telecommuting positions as well, from the larger employment websites or classifieds.

Knowing the truth about online data entry opportunities will prevent you from being scammed, and introduce you to other potentially profitable businesses that you can do regardless of education or finances.
