The Top Ten Sirius Black Quotes from Harry Potter

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Scholastic, Sirius Black

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix is out on the silver screen and the finale of the series is approaching with the looming release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so it seems appropriate to reflect on some old wisdom from Sirius Black.

10.) “There’s enough filth on my robes without you touching them.”

Peter Pettigrew is pretty dirty.

9.) “I’ll look for him later, I expect I’ll find him upstairs crying his eyes out over my mother’s old bloomers or something…Of course, he might have crawled up into the airing cupboard and died…But I mustn’t get my hopes up…”

A little comic relief from our favorite convicted murderer.

8.) “Kreacher is cleaning,” the elf repeated. “Kreacher lives to serve the noble house of Black–”
“–and it’s getting blacker every day, it’s filthy,” said Sirius.

No love for Kreacher.

7.) “Keep muttering and I will be a murderer!”

Yeah, it gets bad.

6.) “Tell them whatever you like. But make it quick, Remus. I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for…”

Well how would you react if you were wrongly imprisoned?

5.) “D’you think your father and I would’ve lain down and taken orders from an old hag like Umbridge?”

I don’t know about you, but when I first read this, I spent a good half hour daydreaming about the golden days when the Marauders used to run Hogwarts.

4.) “Believe me. I never betrayed James and Lily. I would have died before I betrayed them.”

Loyalty.

3.) “This is how it is – this is why you’re not in the Order – you don’t understand – there are things worth dying for!”

This is what sets apart Sirius from Snape.

2.) “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

Very wise words.

1.) “You are truly your father’s son, Harry…”

More than anything else, Sirius is a bridge between Harry and his father. For however long it lasted, Sirius’ presence in Harry’s life offered him a glimpse of what it would be like to have had his parents.
