The Top Ten Movies of 1991

Point Break, Terminator 2, Top Ten Movies

In the year 1991 Arnold Schwarzenegger ruled the box office with Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I was around 9 years old when the movie came out and when I saw it I was amazed. It is for sure one of the coolest movies ever. What else was cool in 1991?

The Top Ten Grossing Movies USA 1991

1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
2. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. The Silence of the Lambs
5. City Slickers
6. Hook
7. The Addams Family
8. Sleeping With The Enemy
9. Father Of The Bride
10. The Naked Gun 2/12: The Smell of Fear

Here are my top ten picks:

10. City Slickers: City folk go on a cattle drive and though I was never a Bilyl Crystal fan this movie always entertained me. The sequel wasn’t as great and really I guess it was the character of Curly as played by Jack Palance that really made things work. He was one creepy, talent man.

9. Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man: Most people either tell me that they have never heard of this movie or that they thought it sucked. I always liked it quite a bit. It stars Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke as motorcycle riding anti-heroes turned heroes, as they fight against Daniel Baldwin and some goons in bullet proof trench coats.

8. My Girl: This movie is probably one of the earliest examples of me really being affected by a fictional tragedy. When Macaulay Culkin goes back like a little sweetheart to find that girl’s mood ring and he gets stung to death by bees, wow: sad.

7. Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves: A version of Robin Hood that brought exciting action as well has a bit darker a feel than the previous versions.

6. Cape Fear: In this remake Robert De Niro is one mean, bad man. His performance and the entire vibe of the movie is brutal and entertaining.

5. Point Break: Sure it would be fairly impossible to make a flamethrower out of a gas pump and various other stunts that occur in this high octane action movie, but who cares!? Point Break was and still is an awesome action movie.

4. Boyz N The Hood: The drama and acting in this movie is top-notch, except Cuba Gooding gets on my nerves. Ice Cube on the other hand deserves some awards for his moody portrayal of a gangster trying to survive in the hood.

3. Backdraft: This movie was so cool that I used to pretend flyswatters were axes and jump around my room dodging fireball explosions and leaping form rooftops ala my bed.

2. Terminator 2: I don’t really need to explain the awesomeness of this movie, it is just generally accepted that it is one of the coolest action movie ever made; and rightfully so.

1. The Last Boyscout: This movie brought the every-man average-joe hero of Die Hard and mixed it with a witty asshole personality making Bruce Willis extremely funny as he gets his ass kicked and kicks ass. The movie is non-stop entertaining and barely edges out Terminator 2 in terms of movies I could watch over and over again without getting bored.
