The North Face Recon Backpack Review

Camelbak, North Face, The North Face

Are you searching for a great backpack to use for school or to hold your gear on the trail? Look no further. The Recon backpack is stylish, rugged and versatile enough to take whatever you throw at it. If this isn’t enough, the super comfortable padded straps and back panel make it easy to carry heavy loads.

I found my 2011 Deep Water Blue North Face Recon backpack on e-omc.com for $64.95. This price is a steal for this backpack in this color and so I ended up getting a price match from Moosejaw.com, mainly because they are awesome and they have a really good rewards program. (I got a Camelbak water bottle for free using my rewards points after buying this backpack).

The Specs:

Weight: 2 lbs 8 oz

Volume: 30 Liters/ 1830 in

Dimensions: 18.5″ x 13.5″ x 7.5″

Great Features:

Flex Vent injection-molded shoulder straps with additional foam and padded air mesh back panel

Padded laptop sleeve and hydration clip/port in main compartment

Secondary compartment dedicated to organization

Stowable hip belt

Large, front mesh drop pocket

Small stash pocket

Mesh side water bottle pockets

The very first thing you notice about this backpack is the very large, mesh pocket on the front of the pack. It has proven to be very useful to drop things in really quick when you are in a hurry and don’t have time to unzip and zip a pocket. Another feature you will notice is the large organization compartment. It will hold almost anything that you wouldn’t want to put in the main compartment, and makes it easier to get out since it keeps everything organized and in place.

The one concern I had about this backpack, compared to some others I had researched, was that it might not be big enough. As I began to put my laptop, books and binders into the main compartment I realized that 30 liters would be more than enough volume.

If you are looking for a versatile pack, the Recon has many features that do just that. The hydration clip/port and hip belt are what make this pack great to take hiking, and the laptop sleeve and organization compartment makes it great to use for travel or school.

The construction of this pack is what really makes it worth the money. The zippers, pockets, straps, buckles, and fabric are really built to last. By just picking up and looking at this backpack, you can see that the quality of the materials used will last through many years of wear and tear.

Overall, The North Face Recon backpack will make a comfortable and stylish backpack for nearly any use. The endless features make this pack a great choice for students, hikers, travelers, and well, anybody else who is looking for a good backpack. With the quality and performance you expect from The North Face, and the great features of this pack, you will be enjoying this backpack for many years to come.
