The Magic Healing Powers of Garlic

If you’re one that likes garlic then you will be amazed to know that this bulb-like herb has been credited for many natural healing properties. Besides its great taste and the versatility it offers, garlic continues to have a traditional role in most kitchens today. Most nationalities has introduced garlic to its menus on account of its distinct great taste and its ability to blend in with most other ingredients.Yet eating garlic has a tremendous value potential as a substitute for medicinal purposes. Many claims have been made over the years for its benefits in promoting better blood circulation and helping with heart disease.With its high volume of sulfur compounds ( diallyl disulfide ) its been a promising asset for improved blood circulation.

For many years garlic has been instrumental fighting infections and wounds as used in many different cultures. There has been some serious studies with garlic in aiding cancer patients. What has been revealed that garlic has the potential to someday replace chemotherapy. This could indeed lessen the side effects of such powerful drugs. When roasted, garlic gives off a sweet caramelized taste and odor that is warmly acceptable in most dishes.

Roasting garlic is a simple culinary process that is typically done in a 350 degree oven . The preparation is simple prior to baking, by just cutting off the top of the stem and exposing the top part of the raw cloves. Its finished by covering the whole clove in olive oil. Once out of the oven and cooled to room temperature the garlic cloves are easily squeezed out of its paper like skin. The garlic at this point is soft and spreadable and can also be mashed in a food processor for a more paste type consistency.There seems to be more and more medical theories from garlic as more and more people are consuming this wonder food in so many different capacities

So with these great qualities of garlic and some of the natural healing properties of this herb, my philosophy in cooking with garlic is to incorporate it with food that is naturally considered good for the body. For example one of my all time favorite is a garlic crusted baked salmon fillet. Salmon on one hand is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. Using garlic with salmon in this capacity is a two fold health benefit. Saute spinach in a moderate amount of olive oil is enhanced twice over with then addition of fresh spinach. Fresh spinach is notorious for its cancer fighting phytochemials.

By adding sufficient amounts of fresh chopped garlic is once again, an added benefit to this extremely healthy green leafy vegetable. Spinach being in a food group that aids in a heart healthy approach.Whats really unique about garlic in its natural form is that it’s compatible with many varieties of foods. My recipe in this lesson revolves around a very tasty mild white fish, Chilean Sea Bass.
