The newest addition to the Indiana Jones movies is entitled “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. Harrison Ford returns to play Indiana Jones in search of saving his son’s mother after she becomes entangled in a quest to return a crystal skull to its resting place. Legend had stated that upon returning the crystal skull that it would unlock a city of pure gold. But in reality it unleashed a large amount of information, some golden treasures, and a look into an alien world.
After seeing this new Indiana Jones movie, I was curious to find out what the facts were and if there was any correlation to the movie world of the legend of the crystal skulls. I had found out that there are many ideas revolving around the actual crystal skulls.
The concept of there being crystal skulls scattered around the world to be discovered are true. Wikipedia states that there are said to be a total of 13 crystal skulls modeled to be that of a human skull that are made from a milky or a clear quartz crystal rock. Only a few crystal skulls have been found and when tested for authenticity, researchers have found that the crystal skulls date back to that of the Maya civilizations. Indiana Jones followed this thought pattern as well, however in the movie all 13 crystal skulls were not scattered all over the world, but rested all at the same location.
The Mayan civilization believed that there would be the end of the world or a worldwide type apocalyptic change on December 21, 2012 and the Mayan calendar ended on this date. Based on Mayan culture, the 13 skulls were associated with this calendar as well. Believed to have some sort of magical powers, if discovered and brought together in a circle by the end Mayan calendar date of the year 2012, it was to contain such a higher power that it was to stop the end of days.
As stated in Science Daily, researchers have been able to find a correlation between the quartz used to create the crystal skulls and the type of element we use to create circuits and computer chips that store large amounts of information. This correlation leads some scientists to believe that the crystal skulls can transmit and receive energy, as well as have the possibility of storing a vast amount of information that humans haven’t been able how to unlock.
The magical powers of the crystal skulls have been gaining popularity over the last centuries. Some people pray to them in belief that they will heal or have healed a loved one. Others believe that the crystal skulls will save humanity from some sort of end days catastrophe. Many researchers have even agreed to the unexplained based upon studies pointing to the crystal skulls containing a series of tiny light tunnels and arches that cause the skull to have glowing eyes.
Ancient legends pointed out by Science Daily, also point to the Indian cultures where belief was that the 13 crystal skulls were of the goddess of death and they were kept separately under stern power of pagan priests and exceptional warriors. Theories have also arisen that the crystal skulls were the computers of the ancient civilizations and are not of Mayan culture but are of the advanced city of Atlantis. Some beliefs state that the crystal skulls were a powerful tool for healing the body, mind, and spirit, as well as holding the knowledge of the ancient lost civilization of Atlantis. When the lost continent of Atlantis sank, many think that they were smuggled to Central America and passed onto the Mayan culture.
In the movie “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, they used another theory for their movie. The theory depicted in the movie as well as through Sci-Fi is that the crystal skulls symbolize the burial of UFO’s at the beginning of time that will rise at the end of time. 13 crystal skulls stand for 13 advanced civilizations that we have yet to discover or even have the means to discover, however before the dawn of our time, these alien civilizations planted crystal skulls around our Earth with the possibility of one of their spacecrafts in order to let us know that there are other worlds out there and to inform us about the knowledge that we have yet to discover. This particular alien theory is questionable because many have claimed to have found alien shaped crystal skulls instead of human modeled crystal skulls.
Just as the theories of the crystal skulls are many, the discover locations of the remaining skulls are theory based as well. Many believe that since they can transmit and receive energy that they are buried among the hundreds of locations around the world that have strange energy fluctuations such as vortexes. Just as many believe that they could be buried under the oceans with the city of Atlantis and or with their original Mayan cultures.
