The Ghost at the Lake – A True Story of the Paranormal

Paranormal Experiences

I’ve had dozens of paranormal experiences in my lifetime, and each time I have a paranormal experience it takes me by surprise. I initially deny what appears to be a ghost, and at the time I attribute the experience or the ghost to something completely normal and totally explainable. The following paranormal experience that involved a ghost by a lake near my home completely took me by surprise, first and foremost because I didn’t realize the person I was seeing was in fact a ghost. This story sounds like a fictional ghost story, but this particular ghost story is entirely true.

Fishing by the Lake

My oldest son loved to fish, and I also enjoyed fishing. Several years ago we lived near a private completely natural lake that was surrounded by trees and very secluded. It was a beautiful fishing lake, and it was full of bass and bluegill. Although we didn’t have permission to fish at this particular lake, no one ever cared or asked any questions.

My son asked me if I wanted to go fishing, and I took him up on the invitation. We drove to the lake property, and I parked the car as close as I could to the narrow path that was almost overgrown with weeds. My son and I walked several yards down to the lake, and I chose a spot that was just wide enough to accommodate one person, and my son fished several feet away in another open area.

The Lawnmower Man

As we both sat in our own private spots enjoying the view and the peacefulness of the lake, the sound of a riding lawnmower broke the silence. A man who was often seen riding a lawnmower lived just beyond the lake, and although he didn’t own the property he seemed to take over the role as caretaker. Rumor had it the man had lost his driver’s license because of drinking and driving, and he drove the lawnmower on short jaunts since he couldn’t drive a car. I figured the man that my husband and I lightheartedly called the lawnmower man was coming down the path to see who we were and what we were doing. I wasn’t worried in the least.

As I sat near the shore with my fishing rod in hand, the sound of the lawnmower stopped. Several seconds later I heard the sound of footsteps scuffling down the path through the weeds. I turned around to see exactly who I expected. The lawnmower man didn’t say a word, and he didn’t even look my way. I usually speak to people, but for some reason I didn’t utter a word because something seemed out of the ordinary. The man looked toward the water as if I wasn’t even there, and I turned back around and continued to fish. After a moment I heard him walk back down the path. He started his lawnmower, and without saying a word he went on his way.

I Saw a Ghost

When my son and I returned home, my husband asked how the fishing went. We had caught a few fish, but nothing to brag about. When I told him I saw the lawnmower man down at the lake his face turned as white as a ghost. He said the person I saw couldn’t have been the lawnmower man, but I was sure that it was. He said the man had passed away three days prior. My husband worked with the daughter of this man, and she was on leave because of her father’s recent death. I realized then that the man who didn’t speak and looked longingly at the lake was a ghost. He was doing what he did in life, and although he looked as solid as a living, breathing human being, I realized I had in fact seen a ghost.
