Myself and husband are both lovers of Buffalo Chicken Wings. We were always searching to find a place that served wings that were bursting with flavor along with being crisp. We always seemed to be on a never-ending search to find someplace close to home that offered take out as well as a place that we could dine in to enjoy our wings.
We tried a lot of wings from many local establishments and found most of them to be lacking taste or soggy they were not crisp and crunchy the way a good buffalo wing should be. The hot sauce was either weak or caused flames to shoot out of your mouth. And the mild had no taste at all or burned away all of your taste buds and should have been classified as Hot.
Finally our long hunt for the perfect wing was over. We discovered an establishment called the Frog Pond. Yes it is an odd name for a pub and pizzeria and no, they do not serve up any menu items containing frogs.
The Frog Pond is a small cozy bar/restaurant located at 131 Coal Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Its only minutes away from the Wachovia Arena located on Highland Boulevard. The inside is decorated with pictures of local sport figures and sport paraphernalia. There is also tons of frog decorations, ceramic frogs, pictures of frogs, and stuffed frogs, it is very nicely done and gives the place a home like feeling. They have a separate bar area plus a non-smoking and smoking section. Families are welcome in the dining areas.
Their wings are awesome, and cooked to perfection. The chicken skin is nice and crisp; it’s not chewy and gummy. The wings are sold by six, twelve or thirty, you can choose from eight different sauces; Mild, Medium, Hot, Hotter, BBQ, Honey BBQ, Honey Mustard, or Red Garlic. We tried the Mild, Hot and Honey BBQ all three were very tasty. We have eaten their wings on numerous occasions and every time they were just as good as the first time. The Frog Pond’s menu also has Pizza, Specialty Pizzas, Hot or Cold Subs, Burgers, Appetizers, Dinner Platters and a Children’s Menu.
The Frog Pond also serves Wine, Beer and a ton of Specialty Drinks. Many of their drinks are their own creations; Orange Crushed Frog is a blend of Absolute Mandarin Vodka, Sour Mix, Cointreau and Orange Juice, it’s delicious another great tasting drink is the South Pond, made with absolute vanilla, Malibu coconut rum and Pineapple Juice. They also have yummy hot drinks, The Snickers Bar is a made with Frangelico, DeKuyper Butter shots, White Cream de Cacao with hot coffee and whipped cream, another great hot drink is the Chocolate Mint Frog, Rumpleminze, Baileys and hot coffee are all blended together and topped off with a heaping pile of whipped cream.The Frog Pond is the only place to go if you are a Buffalo Wing Lover, the food is always fresh and delicious and the prices are also very reasonable. The Frog Ponds Hours are: Tuesday thru Thursday 3 pm. Until 11 pm. Friday 2 pm till 12 am and Saturdays 4 pm until 12 am.
