The Best Will Smith Movies

Independence Day Movie, Will Smith, Will Smith Movies

What are the best Will Smith movies? Would you vote for Bad Boys or Men In Black, or maybe Hitch? Wait no longer, as I reveal the five best Will Smith movies ever made!

5. Enemy of the State (1999)

This movie has to make any list of the best Will Smith movies just because it features both Gene Hackman and Jon Voight. I mean, how much more star power do you need in one film? In this movie, Will Smith plays a young lawyer caught up in a web of intrigue surrounding a politically motivated murder. The movie is long and intense, but very entertaining.

4. Men in Black (1997)

Men in Black was probably the movie that propelled Will Smith on the path to super-stardom. The movie featured Tommy Lee Jones, tons of goofy aliens, cool black suits and crazy weapons, and even a talking pug named Frank. Will Smith exuded energy in this movie and played the perfect comic foil his straight-laced co-star. This film was definitely one of the best Will Smith movies.

3. Hitch (2005)

Smith proved he could carry a romantic comedy with Hitch, one of his best films. Pairing him with Kevin James, one of the funniest guys in show business, was a winning formula. In this film, he acted more like a real person and displayed a quieter form of charisma that actually did not involve fighting aliens (see above and below). It is one of the best movies starring Will Smith.

2. Independence Day (1996)

This is probably Smith’s most memorable film because the blockbuster marked his arrival as a potential Hollywood star. When this film was released, Smith had just wrapped up a six-year run on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and was still considered a rapper and sit-com actor.

In Independence Day, Will Smith helps to save the world from an alien menace, flying alien spacecraft, smoking cigars, and trash talking the entire way. The movie, also staring Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum was so over-the-top cheesy that it crossed over to become one of the best Will Smith movies. The final scene, with the President of the United States physically piloting a fighter jet, was ridiculous but Pullman pulled it off. This is one of Will Smith’s best movies because it allows you to turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride.

1. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

This is the best movie starring Will Smith I have ever watched. The Pursuit of Happyness is a wildly inspirational tale based on the true story of Chris Gardner, who battles homelessness in the 1980s while chasing his dream of becoming a stock broker. Smith’s real-life son, Jaden, almost steals the show, but his father finally shows some real acting chops as a desperate dad swallowing his pride and dignity, fighting tooth and nail to build a better life. This is a wonderful film, and the best Will Smith movie out there. I would highly recommend seeing this one.
