Bar Mitzvah is an important time in a boy’s life. The phrase Bar Mitzvah means son of commandment, or that the person has become responsible to observe and obey what is commanded to them through the Torah. Jews believe that the commandants are meant to keep their lives focused on what should be important in one’s life. This includes family, community, and a relationship with God.
Even though Jews say that they are “having” a Bar Mitzvah, this is actually impossible since it refers to a status in a boy’s life. A Jewish boy automatically becomes Bar Mitzvah when he turns 13.
