The Best and Worst “Giant” Wrestlers in the WWE

Andre the Giant, Wrestlers

There are many catagories of wrestlers in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The cruiserweights (Rey Mysterio), Heavyweights (Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena) and then there are the Super Heavyweights, also known as the Giants. Throughout wrestling history the giant wrestlers have always been a hot commodity and wrestling fans have seen their fair share of good and bad giant wrestlers. It is now time to separate the best from the worst and see what makes a truly great “Big” wrestler.

Giant Gonzales: Starting with some of the worst giants in the ring, this mammoth superstar, like many others, had the title right in his name. Never mind wrestling skills, Giant Gonzales’s ring gear was his worst offense. His outfit consisted of a full body suit with an airbrushed body painted on it and patches of fur all over. The man was big enough; the fur did not need to be added in for any effect. A horrible wrestler, his greatest moment was facing the Undertaker at Wrestlemania IX where he lost to a disqualification.

Bastion Booger: Huge, greasy, nasty, and with Booger in his ring name, you knew this wrestler was not going far and he did not. An embarrassment to big wrestlers everywhere, Bastion Booger quickly came and left the scene in the mid-1990s.

Great Khali: If you though that Giant Gonzales was a bad wrestler, then you have not seen the Great Khali in action. Head-butt, punch, kick, raises arm. You do not get much more from one of the biggest WWE superstars ever, and his size alone is the only thing used to impress people.

Andre The Giant: The Great Khali wished he possessed the ring skills that the legend Andre the Giant has. He was one of WWE’s original Giant wrestlers and could put on a great match with anybody and any size. He has had classics with Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Hulk Hogan, and a memorable cage match with Kamala. All three of those men were of different size and Andre competed well against all of them.

The Big Show: Essentially a re-hash of the Andre character and even once rumored to be his son, the Big Show, also known as Paul Wight, has also had many diverse matches and executed them excellent. He has won both WWE world titles and even had a lengthy stint as the ECW world champion. He is retired now, but hopefully he has a little more left in him and returns to the WWE once again.

Earthquake: Once part of the tag-team the Natural Disasters, the Earthquake was a huge man, ready to take any opponent down. His trademark finisher involved using his girth to jump up and down around a fallen opponent and eventually crush their ribs with a huge splash. He had a memorable feud with Hulk Hogan and the two fought on numerous occasions.

Undertaker: How can any one talk about ring giants and not mention this legend. Ever since 1990 the Undertaker has been wrecking havoc in the WWE and facing any size and shape opponent imaginable. He has defeated other giants like The Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry, Yokozuna, and the Great Khali in a Last Man Standing match. There is too much to say about the Undertaker that will fit in this article, but he will go down as one of the greatest big wrestlers of all-time.

As long as wrestling is in business, there will be giants dominating and waiting to conquered, some good wrestlers, and some just awful, but hopefully more of the good than the bad. To see some of the “Giants” in action check out WWE.com.
