The 10 Best Futurama Episodes

George Takei, Insane Asylum

Just like its Adult Swim counterpart Family Guy, Futurama has created such a huge following that it had to be brought back. Futurama hasn’t been brought back as a full time television show though, just as a straight to DVD movie.

In honor of the new Futurama movie I thought this would be a good time to reminisce about the ten best episodes of Futurama. I like unusual and creative things so Futurama is right up my alley because some of these plots are quite strange.

Futurama Season 1, Episode 6 – A Fistful of Dollars
Fry checks his bank account to find out that since he’s been asleep for 1,000 years the interest rate on his savings have actually made him a billionaire. Fry spends his entire fortune to buy the last unopened can of anchovies on the planet but the evil Mom will do anything to get those anchovies.

Futurama Season 1, Episode 9 – Hell is Other Robots
Bender tries to change his ways but his friends get annoyed and turn him back into evil Bender. Bender goes a little overboard though and is banished to Robot Hell where he meets the Robot Devil, and there’s a musical number!

Futurama Season 2, Episode 5 – I Second That Emotion
Bender gets annoyed by Leela’s pet, Nibbler. One day Bender decides to flush Nibbler down the toilet. The Professor decides to install an empathy chip in Bender so he won’t be so cruel. Bender then becomes sad about what he did to Nibbler and sets out to find the little guy.

Futurama Season 2, Episode 7 – A Head in the Polls
The price of titanium sky rockets so Bender sells his body to a pawn shop. Bender’s head is in the Hall of Heads. Meanwhile Bender’s body is stolen by the head of Richard Nixon and Nixon joins the presidential race.

Futurama Season 2, Episode 18 – The Problem with Popplers
The Planet Express crew find a planet full of delicious popplers. The crew takes these popplers back home and starts a new snack craze. Unfortunately they later find out that popplers are living things and their race comes to save them.

Futurama Season 3, Episode 10 – Luck of the Fryrish
This episode is largely a flashback episode. We flashback to Fry back in 2001 when he found a seven leaf clover that made him extremely lucky and at the same time we flashback to see Fry’s family and how they react after he disappears.

Futurama Season 3, Episode 12 – Insane in the Mainframe
Fry and Bender are sentenced to the robot insane asylum after they are arrested for robbing a bank. Bender has a great time in robot insane asylum but Fry is tired of getting poked and prodded and proclaims he is not a robot. Of course they just think he is an insane robot and don’t listen to him. It isn’t until Fry admits that he is a robot that he is let go.

Futurama Season 3, Episode 14 – Time Keeps on Slippin’
The once light-hearted and fun Harlem Globetrotters are now a mean bunch of jerks that like to humiliate other teams. Professor Farnsworth creates a team of mutant basketball players to combat the Harlem Globetrotters.

Futurama Season 4, Episode 2 – A Tale of Two Santas
On Neptune Santa Claus is actually an evil robot named Santabot. When Bender accidentally freezes Santabot in a block of ice he must take over and spread love and joy. Little does Bender know that the planet still thinks he is the evil Santabot and they are about to launch an attack on him.
