Ten Bible Verses for Mother’s Day Cards

Mothers Day Cards, Proverbs 31

Mother’s Day is the third-largest card selling holiday in the United States, so chances are you are buying a Mother’s Day card for someone: your mom; your wife; your mother-in-law,’ your sister; or perhaps even a friend. If you are looking for the perfect words to write inside a Mother’s Day card, you might want to consider a meaningful Bible verse. Following are my choices for the ten best Bible verses to write in a Mother’s Day card (in no particular order).

1. If the person to whom you are giving a Mother’s Day card suffered from infertility prior to becoming a mother, this verse might fit the bill. Be certain that she is comfortable sharing openly about these issues before writing the Bible verse in a Mother’s Day card. Psalm 113:9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.

2. The Bible refers to the way only a mother (and heavenly Father) can comfort in this verse: Isaiah 66:13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.

3. Is your mother a “Proverbs 31 woman?” Proverbs 31 is full of wonderful verses with which to bless your mother. Proverbs 31:10-12 is a wonderful passage: A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

4. Another nice verse to share with your mother, wife, or mother-in-law: Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he raises her

5. The following verse, alone or combined with the last one, is a wonderful verse for a husband to write in his Mother’s Day card to his wife: Proverbs 31:29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

6. Another verse from a different chapter of Proverbs offers a sweet way to tell your wife on Mother’s Day just how special she is: Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.

7. If you would like to thank your mother for all her words of wisdom, consider this verse: Proverbs 1:8-9 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

8. Are you grateful to your mom for the gift of life? This verse might be the one you are looking for: Psalm 139:13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

9. Does your mother have a gift for caring for small children? Consider 1 Thessalonians 2:7 …but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children.

10. Finally, the list would not be complete without this final verse: Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God will give you.
