So I bought myself a guitar about two months ago and I have no idea how to play it. I know it’s a crazy gesture to buy something that you don’t know how to use but I have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar.

My husband told me about a software called Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe. He told met that his friend learned how to play the guitar by using this software and I should try it out. So I spent about $30 on Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe. That was a bit steep to me because I had found a cheaper software for $20. But Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe claimed to offer more features than the other software, so I just settled on Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe.

The first thing that I liked about Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe was that it was just like having your own personal music tutor. That was what I was looking for. I didn’t want to feel like I was being taught by a piece of software but a person. Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe teaches you how to play the acoustic guitar as well as the electric guitar. Now the thing that used to tickle my mind was playing by ear. I never understood how people played by ear. It was amazing to me but after using Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe, I realized with training you can actually learn. I use to think that was a talent people were born with.

Even though I was excited about Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe, there were features that were missing and that were needed. I’m left-handed and there are NO left-handed instructions. That isn’t all that big of a deal because either I was going to learn, I had no other choice. But we all know that left-handed people are the minority and most things are made for right-handed people.

Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe also didn’t give rhythm lessons and it didn’t teach you how to run repetitive loops. There also is a missing music directory. You can’t just go on Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe, search through the 60 songs and pick one. You can only access the songs through lessons. That’s a bit off but at the same time I understand why it’s set up like that. Some songs are harder than others, so I’m sure they have the 60 songs in order from easiest to hard.

Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe has a screen where you take your lessons on. It’s a split screen. You’ll have a motion video and on the right side you’ll have a navigation window on the left side. The neat thing about Teach Yourself to Play Guitar Deluxe is that you can tune your guitar, search through the software, do some ear training and or adjust settings.
