Subway Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sub Vs. Quiznos Honey Bourbon Chicken Sub

Chicken Teriyaki, quizno's, Subs, Teriyaki

With over 29,000 restaurants in 86 countries, the Subway (R) chain of restaurants is undoubtedly the world’s leading submarine sandwich chain . The Quiznos (R) chain of sub shops, with over 5,000 franchises open worldwide, has established itself as a leading competitor to Subway’s (R) dominance in the submarine sandwich field. For many years, I have been a faithful Subway (R) customer and have sampled many varieties of their delicious, healthy subs. Although I have always been satisfied with every type of Subway (R) sub that I have eaten, to me, one of the most flavorful and exciting varieties of subs that they serve is their Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub. One of Subway’s Fresh Fit (TM) subs, which contain under six grams of fat, the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub is packed- full of sweet and savory flavor that belies its healthful status.

To me, this variety of Subway (R) sub tastes just as good as any order of Chicken Teriyaki to be found at Chinese restaurants. It is hard for me to believe that this incredible- tasting submarine sandwich is actually a healthy food item. I am so fond of Subway (R) Sweet Onion Teriyaki subs that I never gave much thought to trying chicken subs from any other chain of sub shops. Recently however, since a Quiznos (R) Sub Shop opened close to where I live, I decided to see if they offered any types of comparable chicken subs. What I found at the Quiznos (R) restaurant were five varieties of chicken subs, but nothing that closely resembled my beloved Sweet Onion Teriyaki sub. Four of the five Quiznos (R) offerings featured chicken with bacon and assorted vegetables, cheeses and sauces. One other type of sub there, the Honey Bourbon Chicken sub was the only type that bore any similarity to Subway’s (R) Sweet Onion Teriyaki sub.

The Subway (R) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub is comprised of tender strips of boneless chicken that are bathed in a delightful- tasting teriyaki glaze, then coated with an equally- tasty Sweet Onion Sauce, that is actually fat- free. The strips of chicken in this sub are actually real chicken, not the chicken- by- product material that many commerciall- produced chicken tenders are comprised of. The consistency of the chicken strips provides a pleasant mouth- feel that pairs well with any of the myriad fresh sub toppings regularly available at Subway (R). Normally, I prefer to order my Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub topped with lettuce, tomatoes, raw onion, green pepper strips and black olives. The combination of these items is enough to truly satisfy my appetite.

The toasted Quiznos (R) Honey Bourbon Chicken sub also contains strips of real, tender chicken meat, which are bathed in a honey bourbon mustard, then topped with a savory “Grille Sauce”, which I thought tasted quite delectable. The standard ingredients in this sub include lettuce, tomato and red onion, which is exactly the way I ordered my sub. Upon eating the Quiznos (R) Honey Bourbon Chicken sub, I must say that it possessed a sweet and tangy flavor that was accented well by the red onions, lettuce and tomato. The combination of the honey bourbon mustard and Grille Sauce added a zippy taste sensation to the sub, which I definitely enjoyed. As I munched away at the Quiznos (R) sub, I remained objective, trying to see if I enjoyed eating it as much as I do the Subway (R) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub. Truth be told, although the Quiznos (R) sub was quite tasty and enjoyable to eat, it just could not satisfy my appetite nearly as much as the Subway (R) sub always does.

Although I kept an open mind concerning both types of subs, any taste comparison test is essentially subjective in nature. As a result of my tasting both the Subway (R) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub and the Quiznos (R) Honey Bourbon Chicken sub, I have to state that each sub offers flavorful, high- quality ingredients, that when combined, provide for delicious submarine sandwiches. Because I have such an affinity for the Subway (R) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub however, it will remain as my preferred brand and variety of chicken submarine sandwich. The 6″ Subway (R) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub contains 370 calories, with 45 calories with fat and the small Quiznos (R) Honey Bourbon Chicken sub cotains 320 calories, with six grams of fat.
