Spontaneous Orgasms – Are They for Real?

Low Sex Drive, Spontaneous

I was watching this television show and one of the stories on it was about this woman who was suffering from spontaneous orgasms. It seem that she had no control of when or where they occurred. Some of the characters on this show seem envious of this. Other characters just seem interested. As the story went on, the woman was supposed to get an operation that would cure her.

As I watched this, I began to wonder. Could this be real? Is there such a thing as spontaneous orgasms?

I looked up the term and found that spontaneous orgasms means experiencing an orgasm without any physical stimulation. But what I didn’t find is many stories on it.

I did find out that when this does occur, it only occurs in woman. Some articles went on to say that this was a good thing. They believed that if men could have an orgasm without participating in the what we consider normal love making acts. lovemaking would hardly ever occur.

I found a few cases where women claimed to be suffering from this spontaneous orgasm without doing anything to cause it. Some doctors believe that this could have been caused by friction from wearing tight fitting panty hose or pants.

I did find out that some medicines, especially anti-depressants such as Prozac, Zoloft and Wellbuturin can cause this. In a study, spontaneous orgasms was reported by 5% of patients taking these drugs. But the orgasms were not considered severe, they were more like light twinges. This is an unusual side effect for these kinds of medicines. Most people who are taking these medicines experiences the reverse effect, low sex drive and experience less orgasms or none. Another medicine L-dopa which is given to people to help control Parkinson’s disease also has spontaneous orgasms listed as one of its side effects.

Are there any other factors that could cause a spontaneous orgasm? Some evidence proves that a seizure disorder could cause this to happen, too. But it does not happen often.

Actually, there is very little research done as to how this can happened, when one is not striving for it. There is sexual studies that shows we can cause our bodies to respond like this from thoughts, from hearing a certain song or type of music, from watching television shows or movies (especially porn). But in these cases the orgasms is wanted, it just doesn’t occur.

Some sex therapists believe that we can train our brain and our bodies to come together in spontaneous orgasms as well. But again this is occurring because we want it to occur.

The only other cause I could find for this is a chemical reaction within our own brain. We all have chemicals within our bodies and each of us has can have different amounts of these chemicals. Sometimes it seems that these chemical and cause an imbalance just like medicines can to our bodies. When this is the case one should consider seeking the advice of a neurologist.

And if this is happening to you, without you consciously forcing it or hoping for it to happen, you should seek medical attention. Something is wrong. You should first talk to your general doctor and see what he/she recommends you doing.

Now for those of you who saw the same show and was envious, maybe you should rethink what kind of consequences something like this could have to a real person’s life. As for me, I am glad to learn that this is rare. I would not want to suffer from something like this. I like control and wouldn’t want to worry about when or where something like this could happen.
