Emerald Bay State Park
This area became a National Natural Landmark in 1969. It contains the only island (Fannette Island) on Lake Tahoe. There is a structure on the island that resembles a small castle, it is known as “Tea House.” Emerald Bay State Park also has Vikingsholm that is a home that was built in 1928 and 1929. It is the western hemispheres premier example of Scandinavian architecture. Two hundred workers originally built it for Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight. The Emerald Bay State Park also has the Underwater Park that is the location of numerous boats, barges, and launches from the turn of the century. It was designated an underwater state park in 1994.
