Small Dog Breed Temperament

Small Breed Dogs, Small Dog Breeds, What Dog Breed Should I Get

Small and toy breed dogs are sometimes thought of as yappy and prissy dogs. Truth is like all dog breeds they all have very different personalities. Breed temperament are just general observations about the breed in general. Dogs are all individuals with their own personalities. Nothing can replace spending time with the dog you are planning to purchase or adopt. You can get an idea of the temperament of a puppy by observing the there mother and how the interacts with rest of the litter.

A shy puppy may not grow up to be a shy dog. When you adopt a young dog a great deal of their general temperament the training you do with the puppy will determine its ultimate adult temperament. Still there are temperament tendencies related to small dog breeds. This article is A-D of some of my favorite small breed dogs.

Affenpiccsher is alert and very inquisitive. They can be trusted around children over six. They are a quiet breed that will be fearless when they feel attacked. They are generally affectionate to everyone in the household. They will tolerate other pets and may actually attach to one

Bichon Frise is another generally laid back small dog. They tend to like to attach to one person in the house more than others. Still they are very good family pets as they tolerate children and other pets. They are not dogs that like to be left alone for long periods of time. Their coats require some grooming but they don’t shed. They are very intelligent dogs and are easy to train and house break.

Boston terriers are a fairly even tempered breed and their short coat makes them a low maintenance small dog. They make great family dogs and do well with kids and other pets. They are renowned for being aggressive chewers and it would be best to keep them in chew toys to spare your shoes.

Chihuahuas can be fearless when dealing with larger breed dogs. They tend not to be aware of their size when they feel threatened. They tend to get a long with other Chihuahuas or other small breed dogs. Chihuahuas can be nippy and intolerant of very small children, but they tend to get on with cats. They are loyal to their human families and affectionate. They tend to do well with just a little exercise and can be good pets for people with little space or who are older.

Dachshund may look to be a kind of hound but they are really a terrier bred to hunt vermin. They tend to be a very active and physically hearty breed and do enjoy spending time outside. They can be aggressive towards very small children. They do have a tendency to chase cats as most dogs will. In general Dachshunds get along with other pets. They are a good family dog for families with kids over the age of six and will enjoy running around the yard with the kids. They do mellow with age and all not always excited like the Jack Russell.

The next article I will cover the next alphabet of my favorite small breed dogs. Take your time to find a small breed dog that fits your lifestyle and you will be a very contented dog owner.
