Are you planning on visiting West Virginia this winter? Do you want to take your family sledding or snow tubing while you are there? If so, you should know that the state is home to several great sledding destinations. Here’s a cursory glance at a handful of them:
Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground
If you are looking to avoid the throngs of people known to visit West Virginia’s ski resorts, Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground may be the place for you. The park is located in Bruceton Mills. It features a 350 foot long sledding hill, a warming hut, onsite refreshments, toboggan rentals and cabin rentals. Cross-country skiing opportunities are also available on premise. Hours of operation are subject to change.
Pipestem Resort Park
Pipestem Resort Park is located near Princeton. It features a sledding area, a cross-country skiing area and an onsite pro shop. The pro shop offers sled rentals. Sled rental fees typically start at $2 per hour. Onsite lodging, dining, horseback riding and indoor swimming opportunities are also available. The resort opens daily.
Blackwater Falls State Park
Blackwater Falls State Park is another excellent place to take the family sledding. The park is located in Davis and opens daily. It features a .25 mile long sledding hill and a warming hut. Sled rentals, a rope tow, a concession area, lodging and cross-country skiing opportunities are located onsite too. Rental prices vary.
Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center
The Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center features a massive snow tubing area with 600 foot long lanes. The snow tubing area traditionally opens daily through early March, weather permitting. A family of four may expect to pay a minimum of $60 for a two hour snow tubing session. Snow tubing prices tend to increase on holidays and weekends. The resort is located in Tucker County and additional activities are available onsite.
Winterplace Ski Resort
The Winterplace Ski Resort is located in Ghent. It features an onsite snow tubing area, snow tube rentals, carpet lifts and eateries. The snow tubing area is usually open on the weekends with varying hours of operation. On average, snow tubing prices start at $28 per person for a two hour session.
Snowshoe Mountain
Snowshoe Mountain is located in Snowshoe. It features a six story high snow tubing area, which tends to open daily. Snow tubing prices vary. In most instances, a family of four may anticipate paying a minimum of $48 for a two hour snow tubing session. Dining, shopping and skiing opportunities are also available onsite.
