Signature Plates Instead of Books

Types of Paint

A signature book is typical for a wedding and some other events. People who visit or attend on that special day are requested to sign a book that is treasured forever after. It’s a nice way to remember all the people who were with you during a special time in your life. Do something a little different at your next special occasion; ask your guests to help create a signature plate. It’s perfect for a wedding, birthday, a new baby, a graduation and many other occasions. It’s even nicer than a signature book because you can hang it up to display in your home.

At a craft store you’ll find many different colors and types of paint pens. They’re not expensive but are perfect for having guests write on a plate. The paint is permanent, but after applied, the plate cannot be used for food. Each color and combination you use for the plate and pen will create a different appearance. Make a lovely wedding plate using a white plate and gold marker. Had a sea-theme birthday party? Use a white plate with a blue marker.

White is not the only color of plate you can use, but for best results, stick with colors which are not dark or extremely bright. You can find single plates at most dollar-theme stores so you can’t beat the price! You’ll be surprised at just how nice some of their plates are. There are other options for finding just the right plate including browsing at an antique store, flea market or thrift store.

If there will be just a few guests you’ll need only one plate. If there will be many guests lay out a stack of plates. Guests, if you want, can also sign on cups, saucers or other dishes. They can also do more than sign, like draw simplistic images or write a one-liner. Let the guests know by making a simple announcement at the event pertaining to just signatures or other requests. Set up a table or other area where guests can sit to sign. If the announcement is made early in the event there will be no lines for people waiting to sign. If there will be several plates signed set up a few chairs so more than one guest can sign at a time.

There are lots of ways to display the signed plate(s). If there’s just one plate, purchase a plate holder, then display it on a shelf or mantle. If there are two or three plates, use glue dots to attach them to a wide, velvet ribbon. Thread the ribbon through a small brass ring – found at a craft store – and hang the display.

The signature plates can be combined with other unique plates and used as a wall arrangement. Simply hang all the signature plates amongst other decorative plates to create the look. They can be hung in uniformed patterns or randomly. It’s a fabulous way to remember those who attended a very special event in your life!
