Scrabble Slam Card Game: Product Review

Hasbro, Scrabble

I love playing Scrabble. I can’t imagine any writer not loving a game that revolves around words. That’s why, when I saw a TV commercial for the Scrabble Slam Card Game, I knew I had to buy it. Just like the original Scrabble, the object of this game is to make up words out of letters. Hasbro made Scrabble Slam Card Game a little tougher, though, because the cards you get dealt are what you’re stuck with. There’s no exchanging. And, the words are only four letters long. Read this informative product review and find out everything you need to know about the Scrabble Slam Card Game!

Price and Availability

I found the Scrabble Slam Card Game at Wal-Mart for about $6.00. It’s also available at HasbroToyShop.com, Amazon.com, AreYouGame.com and entertainment earth.com according to the Hasbro website. (If you’re looking for other games like Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, Boggle, Clue, Cranium, Yahtzee and a bunch others, visit the Hasbro Toy Shop.)

Product Description and Playing Instructions

Scrabble Slam Card Game is basically a deck of 55 letter cards and instructions. It’s designed for 2 – 4 players age 8 and up. To start, a player thinks up a four-letter word. The word is then spelled out with the appropriate letter cards. The remaining cards are then passed out to all the players. Each card has two letters on it, one on the front and one on the back. Both letters are listed in the upper left-hand corner so you don’t have to flip the Scrabble Slam Card Game cards over to remind you. There are also blank cards to be used as “Wild” cards.

Next, one player hollers, “Ready, Set, Slam!” and the fast action begins. You don’t really take turns in Scrabble Slam Card Game. Everyone just shouts out the new word they’re going to change the base word to. As quickly as they can, they also slam down a card from their hand over a letter on the table to spell their new word. Only one letter card can be played at a time in Scrabble Slam Card Game. Just like with the original Scrabble, no proper names, place names or acronyms are allowed. Every word you make may be disputed by the other players too.

The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the Scrabble Slam Card Game. If no one can change the base word, the player with the least number of cards wins.

Product Test and Conclusion

I highly recommend the Scrabble Slam Card Game. A game can take about ten minutes if you have a group of good players. We think it’s more fun if you keep track of the games each player wins. We like to have a “Champ” when we finally finish playing Scrabble Slam Card Game.

It’s too bad that Hasbro didn’t include a plastic tray to place the four cards in. The piles of cards tend to slide around and get mixed together as each player is slamming a card down. Otherwise, Scrabble Slam Card Game gets a thumbs up.
