San Diego is a big and beautiful city, so it should come as no surprise that San Diego has several holiday light displays that are available for the public to attend. There are countless displays of lights, but this article details three that are must-see, unique events. So gather up your family and enjoy these spectacular light displays.

Festival of Lights

The San Diego Zoo is having their Festival of Lights at their Wild Animal Park. Your family will get to walk through beautiful and fun displays such as animal figures, teddy bears, nutcrackers, a 52-foot lighted train, 6 foot high toy soldiers, and much more. There are over 100,000 lights at this display. If you want to see the lights from up above, you can pay extra to go on the zoo’s Balloon safari. The Balloon Safari is $15 dollars and will take you 400 feet up into the air so you can see the glittering wonderland of lights below. Prices for the Festival of Lights event are included with regular zoo admission. Adults are $28.50 and children are $17.50. Dates for the Festival of Lights are December 7ththrough the 23rd and December 26th through the 30th. You can enter the park 4-8 PM and the grounds close at 9 PM. For more info, call 760) 796-5621. Parade of Lights

What could be more unique then watching boats decorated in Christmas lights float down the bay? If you haven’t been to this event before, then you’re in for a real treat. This is a free event for the public, all you need to do is fine a place to sit or stand along the bay line. This year’s theme is A Pirates Christmas and the dates are December 9th & December 16th from 5:30-9:00 PM. This event gets around 80,000 people and parking is hard to come by. You may want to consider using the San Diego Trolley to get to this event or to park as close as you can and get a cab to take you the rest of the way. It starts at the South end to north end of Shelter Island and ends at Ferry Landing on Coronado. For more information, call (619) 224-2240.

Garden of Lights

The Quail Botanical Garden is hosting their Garden of Lights on December 7-9, 13-23 and 26-30. It starts at 5 PM and lasts until 9 PM. Over 90,000 lights adorn the beautiful trees and plants at the Quail Botanical Gardens. There will be activities such as holiday crafts, marshmallow roasting, food and drink, plus a visit from Santa. For an additional free, you can get your photo taken with Santa or go on a horse drawn carriage ride. Admission is $8 dollars for adults, and $3 dollars for children ages 3 to 12.
