Reviewing Almay’s Pure Blend Mineral Makeup

Makeup Products, Mineral Foundation, Mineral Makeup

I have sensitive skin so I have to be careful what type of makeup I wear. I love Almay beauty products because the company focuses heavily on providing the purist products possible. Plus, Almay’s one coat mascara is simply the best beauty product on the market today!

Because my skin is sensitive, I try very hard to stay away from beauty products that contain too many chemical additives. I prefer mineral makeup, whenever it is available, because it tends to be free of many of the most dangerous additives. However, a lot of mineral makeup products are expensive and well out of the range of the American woman who does not work outside the home.

Today, many cosmetic companies are finally getting with the program and developing mineral product lines. Such is the case with Almay. Their newest mineral product is called Pure Blends Mineral Makeup. It comes in a revolutionary new delivery format that should be easy for women to carry in their purse or pocket.

It is the delivery format that first caught my attention. I’ve been looking for some kind of mineral product that I could carry in my purse without worrying about it making a mess. Almay seemed to finally offer something that might work. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

Let me begin by saying that Pure Blends is an excellent mineral foundation. It contains light reflecting particles that camouflage flaws. It blends easily into the skin without clogging pores or being too heavy in some spots and too light in others. It makes the skin look beautiful without looking like you are wearing any foundation at all. It evens out the skin tone and makes the skin look absolutely flawless. Best of all, it has SPF 15 sun protection.

Pure Blends comes in six sheer shades that will work for a wide range of today’s women. These include: fair, fair to light, light, light to soft medium, soft medium, and medium. It is cheaper than many of the mineral makeup products on the market today, retailing for just under $11.

The product with Pure Blends isn’t the makeup. It’s the container. Although the concept is certainly revolutionary and could be the answer to a million women’s prayers, it just doesn’t work the way it is supposed to.

However, it’s not all negative. I actually like the click button that helps to distribute just the right amount of foundation for each application. Most women tend to use far too much mineral foundation until they get use to the application process. Almay’s delivery system helps to prevent that from happening.

I’m even amazed that the built-in brush is appropriatly soft and good at applying the foundation. The problem lies in the fact that the clear plastic section that is supposed to pull up and close over the brush doesn’t work properly. Without that, product can be easily lost. It also pretty much negates the feasibility of carrying the dispenser in a purse or pocket.

What a disappointment. I thought I’d finally found the answer to my prayers: a great mineral makeup that I could carry with me anywhere. I guess it is back to the drawing board on the latter. Still, it doesn’t change the fact that this is a truly wonderful mineral makeup. I guess you just can’t have everything.

I give the mineral foundation five out of five stars. It’s definitely worth the $10 for 0.1 oz size. Unfortunately, I have to give the delivery system at three out of five stars. I still like the click delivery a lot. But how I wish that the safety cover actually worked as well.
