Review: Wendy’s New Cod Fish Sandwich

Thousand Island

I decided to go through the drive-through at Wendy’s and try their new highly advertised fish sandwich. It is advertised as Cod and very flaky with a special tartar sauce. I was with a friend so we both got a fish sandwich. In the advertisement they do not mention a special introductory price. How bad can it be?

Without a drink or fries two sandwiches came to $7. 13! I thought I heard her wrong. I asked her again how much the two fish sandwiches were and she repeated it. I was flabbergasted. I thought this must be one heck of a fish sandwich for that price.

Granted it wasn’t too bad. It was actually rather tasty. For the price I figured it should be. It is a little bigger than a McDonald’s fish sandwich although if you like cheese you will be disappointed. There is no cheese on this fish sandwich. It has a special tartar sauce similar in color to Thousand Island Dressing and lettuce. It is on a larger bun and the fish is an acceptable size. I have to say that I was not that impressed. I think I would just as soon pay a dollar less and get a McDonald’s fish sandwich.

I might be getting tighter in my old age but I thought the price was outrageous. If this is an introductory price it is going to cost even more when the advertised special is over. I should have been leery though because there was no price in the advertisement. I noticed that McDonald’s is advertising 2 fish sandwiches now for $3.33. Interestingly enough that is about the price of one of Wendy’s new fish sandwiches.

In all fairness the flavor and the size is good. I don’t think though that I will be parting with my money very often on this fat laden breaded fish sandwich, not for the price anyway. I do like their dollar meal though. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with a smaller less pricey version of this sandwich. Wendy’s have a dollar menu that is a very fair price with a large selection. If they put a fish sandwich on that menu I will be interested. I think that McDonald’s will be the biggest competitor on fish sandwiches.

Maybe if they would have started out with a less expensive fish sandwich and then booted up their price after the introduction they would have been better off. I think that part of the hook, pun intended, is starting off with an inexpensive introductory price on any new item. If you like fish sandwiches you will like this one but I would only give it an 8 because of the price.
