As a mother of a 2-year-old, I tend to have moments where I sometimes find myself awake in the wee hours of the morning…the infomercial hours, if you will. Hours typically between 2-6am in which Guthy-Renker infiltrates the cable airwaves with their barrage of trendy beauty product ads. You laugh, but only because you know what I am talking about. Celebrity endorsed wrinkle treatments, Pro-Activ acne system, and Sheer Cover mineral makeup have been given a hair care comrade to round out their “not available in stores” ranks.
Wen caught my attention as I am constantly searching for products that could potentially restore some luster to my severely dry over processed hair. Smoothing shampoos, hair masks, glossing drops have all seemed to only serve as temporary half-solutions. To make matters worse the over use of product seemed to thrash my hair further. The idea of Wen intrigued me, and aside from that I had gotten fairly desperate. Cutting off the hair I have spent the past few years growing out was not an option I smiled upon.
The thing that I found most interesting about Wen hair care is that it is all natural and detergent free. Detergents are said to be the major source of hair damage as they strip the hairs natural oils leaving us no choice but to try and replace them with conditioners that only weigh it down. Presented like that, it all made sense. I was fighting a never ending battle with my hair. Washing was drying it out; conditioner was leaving it limp and almost greasy. It was this thought process that had me sold on Wen hair care.
I want you all to know that I first tried Wen directly after stripping and dyeing my hair. That’s right; I gave the product an ultra test. “Take that infomercial supposed hair miracle…fix double processing.” I was amazed! My hair felt as if I had not even dyed it…let alone the fact that I had stripped and dyed it in the same day. It was soft, shiny, and manageable. Of course being the skeptic that I am, I wrote part of it off as the “day of dyeing” luster. Those of you that dye your hair will know what I mean.
So, I gave it a few weeks, and I noticed that my hair did nothing but improve upon itself. The sheen was genuine, and my hair had a fullness that before I could only achieve by using gobs of volumizing product. (Only to have it fall flat hours later) Wen has cured me!
I am in love with my hair again, and I will never go back to ordinary shampoo. In fact, I use Wen as a cleanser, a conditioner, and a leave-in.
The only drawback I see in Wen is the price point, as $38 a month with shipping is pretty steep for hair care. I realize that a lot of us avoiding potentially frivolous purchases, and tightening our belts due to the current state of the economy. However, if you take into consideration the price of all of the products you purchase in a month it isn’t too much more.
