Since it has warmed up recently, I’ve been spending a great deal of time outside grilling my dinners. But, earlier this week, the weather didn’t cooperate for that so I ended up making a trip to our local Papa Murphy’s instead.
Craving something different, my wife asked me to pick up one of the pizza chain’s new Taco Grande Pizzas so I did (along with one of our usual pizzas).
I’m going to start out by saying I’m not a huge fan of taco pizzas. I’ve had them in the past and have never particularly liked the taste. And, that prejudice against them did influence my opinion of this one so you aren’t going to hear me tell you it was the best pizza I ever tried. In fact, I only had one slice of it. However, as far as taco pizzas are concerned, the Taco Grande was better than I expected it to be.
The Taco Grande pizza consists of ingredients like refried beans, salsa, mozzarella, seasoned ground beef, tomatoes, black olives and green onions. The first thing I will tell you about that, compared to other pizzas, is Papa Murphy’s doesn’t skimp on the ingredients. This pizza (which we actually got on sale) was just as loaded with toppings as any other pizza I’ve purchased there. So, if you do enjoy the taste of this kind of pizza, it is worth the money.
And, of course, you can’t leave out the fact they make the pizza on the same crust as their other varieties. I have yet to find a pizza place with better crust.
In terms of taste, again, I won’t say I loved this particular variety. However, once again, it was better than expected. When I bought it, I was afraid it would be spicy. This isn’t a huge deal for me (though I do get heartburn on occasion) but I knew my wife would be sick if she ate it. However, it wasn’t. It’s a bit hard to describe the taste exactly but it was a bit like eating a beef and bean burrito with some onions and tomatoes mixed in with it.
Obviously, this is something where opinions will vary a bit depending on what kind of toppings you like on your pizza. But, even given the fact this isn’t the type of pizza I would normally eat, I will admit it is definitely something I’m sure many people would enjoy. It’s almost too bad they are only offering it for a limited time rather than adding it to their regular menu.
