Review of Zilactin Cold Sore Gel

Fever Blisters, Mouth Ulcers

I suffer from those painful canker sores in my mouth, and some of them have been quite large, almost 1/4″ in diameter. I figured who would know more about mouth pain than my dentist, so I called her and asked what her office recommends. Without hesitation they suggested I buy a product called Zilactin. Ever since I started using it a couple of years ago, I am sure to have it on hand in my medicine cabinet.

The last outbreak of canker sores left me with FIVE different ones in my mouth. I was in an incredible amount of pain, and found it difficult to eat without using Zilactin first. What’s so great about this product is that it forms a thin film over the open sore that protects it from food, liquids or air. This is very helpful in reducing my pain and allowing me to eat or drink foods that would normally be off limits.

Ingredients
Active: Benzyl Alcohol 10%

Inactive: Boric Acid, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Salicylic Acid, SD Alcohol 37, Tannic Acid.

How To Use Zilactin
You don’t want to contaminate the contents, so it’s best to use this by dabbing a small amount onto the tip of your finger or onto a Q-tip. It works best if I take a cotton pad and dry off the sores first, then apply a thin film of Zilactin over. It takes about 30 seconds to dry, and the brownish colored gel dries clear.

The tube says that Zilactin can be used four times a day, if needed.

My Experience with Zilactin
This product has saved me untold pain and discomfort! When I apply the Zilactin to the sores, I admit that it does sting quite bad, and the product itself has a very odd and unusual odor. However, the pain doesn’t last long at all, and when the gel dries it actually forms a second skin over the sores and gives me a couple of hours of relief.

I can even drink hot liquids when the Zilactin is protecting my mouth ulcers, and doing that during a break out is normally out of the question.

The package claims that the patented bioadhesive promotes healing, and relieves pain for up to 6 hours. While I do get the needed relief from Zilactin, it has never lasted for 6 hours. I find that in one to two hours the protective skin actually starts to peel off, and I apply it again. On bad days, I do use this more than the 4 times allowed.

If you suffer from canker sores or fever blisters, I would highly recommend that you give Zilactin a try. It is expensive, and not every store in my area carries it. I believe I paid $12.00 for my .25 ounce tube, and I almost didn’t buy it because of the high price. My dentist warned me that it was expensive, but said it was worth the cost, and I have to agree. This product has been a real blessing to me.
