Review of Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Beef Jerky

Beef Jerky, Jerky

My wife and I decided to take the kids to Wal-mart earlier today so they could see the Easter Bunny and so we could pick up something for both lunch and dinner. After doing those things, we went to check out and, while we were standing in line, I noticed something different on their snack shelf, Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Beef Jerky.

We have had Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce in the past and my wife and I both like it. Both because of that and the fact we hadn’t had beef jerky in a while, we ended up buying a pack of it.

Despite the familiar brand name, I did have a few doubts about this particular product. The beef jerky was almost $4 and, since we are once again on a somewhat tight budget until payday, I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it or a big waste of money. That’s why, even though we hadn’t had lunch yet, I decided to give this beef jerky a try as soon as we got home.

When we tried this brand of beef jerky, I was primarily afraid it wouldn’t stand out. As I said before, we spent nearly $4 on this brand. I could have purchased another brand of beef jerky for about half of that and, if there wasn’t any difference in flavor, I would have been very disappointed. However, after trying this beef jerky, I have to admit, it was pretty decent. It had a bold flavor that did manage to set it apart from some of the cheaper brands that are out there. That, alone, made it worth the extra money.

Another thing I liked about this particular product is the jerky wasn’t very tough. I’ve had a few other brands that weren’t much better than chewing shoe leather. That probably wouldn’t bother me too much, except it always ends up hurting my teeth. This brand wasn’t like that. The beef jerky tasted decent and was very easy to chew. It also seemed to be a bit fresher than many other brands I’ve tried.

In fact, despite the higher price, this is a brand I definitely would consider buying again. Much like their barbecue sauce, Sweet Baby Ray’s definitely outperformed its competition when it came to the beef jerky.
