Review of Solea Olive Oil Potato Chips

Potato Chips

Guilt-free potato chips, it is like a dream come true. It is a balancing act to get your family in better health when there are unhealthy habits that some of us can just not kick out of our daily diets. One of those habits for me is eating potato chips, I can not help it I love food that has a crunch to it. Now, Solea has come out with a reasonably priced potato chip that I can eat the whole bag and not feel guilty.

Solea potato chips are an American made product line that has been created by Good Health Natural Foods Inc. Although this last week was the first time I saw this brand-name, it apparently serves the health food industry providing healthy alternatives for people who can’t kick their bad habits either; at least I know I am not the only one then. In fact, the chips are so popular, there are four other kinds: Sweet Potato, Garlic, Sea Salt and even Rosemary. The kind I chose was Cracked Pepper and Sea Salt.

Advantages of these Chips:

* 40% less fat than regular chips
* Made from 100% natural ingredients
* Cooked in 100% Olive Oil
* Contains Omega 3 and Omega 6’s
* Made from russet potatoes from the Columbia River Basin in Washington
* Cooked at low-temperatures to preserve the quality and essential benefits from the olive oil

When I stepped into World Market (Cost Plus) I saw this new chip and knew I had to try it out. I choose the cracked pepper and sea salt selection since I am addicted to pepper and was hoping the flavor would be nice and strong.

Appearance:

I was impressed that only two of our chips were broken in the entire bag; I was amazed. The potato chips were very crisp and were slightly thicker than traditional potato chips such as Lays. When you grab in the bag, your hand does not get greasy at all and the chips have very little grease on them. The quality is just top-notch!

Taste:

When you first bite into your first healthy potato chip you will notice there is a strong cracked pepper taste. Unlike some salt and vinegar chips though, it is not an overwhelming taste and does not burn your mouth. Since the chips are cooked in lower temperatures, the taste of the potato is really brought out. Although the potato chips are made with sea salt, it is hard to find the taste of salt on any of the chips which is rather nice for a change.

Price:

These were much cheaper than the other brands that are usually on the market in health food stores. For a 50 oz bag I found that the price of $2.79 was very reasonable. In comparison to other potato chips on the market though, I think that the quality is incomparable and worth the few extra cents.

So, as a potato chip and crunchy food lover, I suggest these new potato chips to anyone. I purchased these at World Market (Cost Plus) so I image most of the other locations will also contain this new junk food item. When you purchase your first bag, do not feel guilty if you eat the entire bag – remember it’s healthy!
