Review of Radio Flyer Liberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer: The Next Step Up in Bouncing Horses for Older Children

Radio Flyer

At one time the Radio Flyer Liberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer was a very unsafe toy for children in the four to eight year old range. Radio Flyer has made some significant improvements to the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer to make it safer for kids now. The question though is have they done enough to make the toy safe for the intended three to six year old age range? The answer is that the improvements they have made to make the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer marginally safer, but still not a toy I would purchase for my child. One of his friends has it, and I find that there are too many injury risks associated with this toy.

The steel frame is sturdy, so there is no fear of the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer toppling over, so that is a good thing. The base is also wide helping to support the horse no matter how hard your child bounces on it. In the past there was an issue with the s-hooks that attach the springs to the horse and frame breaking. This would result in your child falling off the horse or crashing to the ground on the horse. This was a major safety issue. Radio Flyer has made significant improvements in safety in that area on the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer. The s-hook is no longer the only method they use to attach the horse to the frame. Radio Flyer now also uses bungee straps as a backup in case the s-hook breaks.

Unfortunately though, Radio Flyer has not repaired all the safety issues with the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer. As any parent knows it is very easy for your child to get their finger pinches in the spring that attach the horse to the frame. Radio Flyer attempted to fix this safety concern with plastic covers for the springs. These plastic covers though wear through in about a month and the springs are exposed again. To help fix this the newer versions of the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer now have cloth covers for the springs which is better. If you get a horse with the plastic spring covers, I would recommending contacting Radio Flyer and asking them for the cloth covers.

Overall though other than the safety concerns, which Radio Flyer appears to be trying to address, the Radio Flyer LIberty Spring Horse by Radio Flyer is a fun toy for children ages three to six years old. The stirrups are even adjustable for your child as they get older and bigger. There is a 50 pound limit though for children riding this toy. That means that some six year olds, and even some five year olds might be too heavy for the horse to ride it safely.
