I purchased a portable DVD player to model MPD-850, Magnavox make, before about 6 months. I am using this unit quite extensively during this period as I have to move out a lot for my business and pleasure. The unit has become a close friend of mine since last 6 months. I am going to present its brief product review for all AC readers.
This unit adopts high definition feature with many unique functions like multi angle and multi language view. The unit has a zooming feature that can zoom multi-media playback to 2, 3 or 4 times the original size. It can also shrink the play back in same proportions. It can also search a specific part on a disc, especially more useful while watching action movies.
It has got 8.5 inches TFT, LCD screen. It is also possible to swing the screen through 180 degrees for viewing in any suitable position. The unit is supplied with the remote control with a battery installed in it. The on-screen OSD display contains many playback features like timer display, chapter selection, etc. The most vital feature of this unit is that it can play all types of discs like DVDs, video CDs, and the audio MP3 discs. This feature is really unique in this unit and is generally not found in any other similar units of other make. The unit is supplied with a battery that can play the unit for around 2 hours when fully charged.
Then, it can be charged with the AC adopter supplied along with the unit. The DVD player can be used as long as we wish by connecting it with the 110v AC supply. The captions/subtitles can also be made ON whenever it is needed. The screen selection can be also kept as normal or wide based on the picture you are going to see. The sound system is also very effective with two speakers. There is also a provision for connecting two head phones at the time of using, not disturbing others near-by. There is a provision of parental lock to be provided for not allowing particular rating media to be viewed by the children. The unit can be connected with the big size TV and the discs can be viewed on large screen of your home TV, using the unit as a DVD player.
The book mark feature allows you to mark a point on the disc that you can go quickly. You can store up to 12 bookmarks per disc. However, if you turn off the player or remove the disc, all book marks are cleared. The unit is very light and has a weight of around one kg, Its power consumption is less than 20W. So many unique features make this unit the most versatile one. I have been using this player since last 6 months without facing any maintenance problems whatsoever. Make sure to buy leather case for storing this unit safely so that it can be handled easily during its transportation. I bought this unit in around $180 with the extended warranty of 3 years. But I feel that the unit is going to work just fine during this period not needing any repairs. I consider this purchase as one of the best deal. I am very happy with the performance of the unit and have no hesitation in recommending it to all my friends of AC family. So, make a plan to buy the player and you will not regret it.
