Review of Lipton Diet Green Tea with Citrus

Lipton

I drink a lot of fresh brewed tea throughout the day; evening the dead of winter, my tea pot sees a lot of use. Most of the time I drink it with an artificial sweetener such as Splenda or Sweet ‘N Low; I don’t go for the fruity blends either. I’m a hard core tea drinker, the stronger the better I always say. Lipton makes a variety of tea drinks; from their White Tea to the newest Premium Pyramid Tea Bags, they are one of the biggest commercial names in the tea leaf business. I was a huge fan of the Diet Brisk tea but started to get burned out on it so when I came across the Diet Green Tea With Citrus, I couldn’t pass up trying it.

(water, citric acid, green tea, aspartame, honey, caramel color)

One of the biggest selling points to this is the flavonoid antioxidants; if you don’t know about this, it is the newest ‘rage’ in the health world but it’s been around for years. Antioxidants are suggested to be beneficial in providing protection against free radicals.

Don’t know what a free radical is? No, it’s not a math term or something that you get for free. It is a molecule that are produced by the body and occur naturally in the environment. Free radicals are to blame for everything from premature aging to heart disease, certain strains of cancer and other chronic diseases. Drinking this isn’t going to cure of you of any ills you may have but it’s certainly better than sucking down a diet carbonated beverage.

As far as taste is concerned, it is smooth and light and doesn’t leave you feeling thirsty. The added citrus kick isn’t overpowering so you are getting a nice green tea flavor from it. I was a die hard fan of Diet Lipton Brisk but after trying this, I am hooked on it. Even if I pour it over ice and it gets a little watered down, it still has an incredible taste.

Lipton Diet Green Tea comes in several different sizes; the most popular is the 1.5 liter bottle that sells for about $1.29 at Wal-Mart. I like grabbing a bottle there because they always have them in the cooler and it is a refreshing alternative to soda or sugar free Kool-Aid. You can also get this in twenty ounce bottles as well as two liters; if you want to stock up on them, they also make them in six and twelve packs. Expect to pay more in grocery stores and convenience stores, I’ve seen the twenty ounce bottles selling for $1.59 at my local 7-11 and Circle K shops.

This is a carbohydrate free beverage so if you are doing a low carb diet, this is something that you can add to it for a little bit of a change. I have never had it make an impact on my ketosis levels so it is something that I recommend to all my dieting friends. The sodium isn’t off the charts (60 mgs per eight ounce serving) so this isn’t something that is going to make you retain fluids or cause you to be thirsty five minutes later.

One thing that I love about this is that it comes in a twist off plastic bottle; I don’t have to worry about it spoiling if I don’t finish it in one sitting and it’s nicer to tote around than a can. I do have to admit that I am partially immune to the effects of caffeine so I can’t say whether or not drinking a whole liter and a half is going to give you the jitters. Friends that have tried it have never complained about it but if you are sensitive to caffeine, you may want to take it easy with this.

The taste is what keeps me coming back to it again and again. It is light and crisp and tastes great straight out of the bottle or over ice. It may not be the most cost effective way to consume iced tea but any home brew I have tried with Lipton Green Tea hasn’t come close to matching what this has to offer. If you’ve seen this at the store and were a little reluctant to try it, take it from me, after the first sip, you’ll be hooked on it.

To ensure the best taste, check the bottles for the ‘best by’ date on the neck of the bottle and refrigerate after opening. Lipton is a Unilver company so if you ever have any questions or comments, they will be handled by customer service representatives that are dedicated to customer satisfaction.
