Review of Lawry’s Chicken Fajita Seasoning

Fajitas

To make good chicken fajitas you need a good chicken fajita seasoning. The seasonings should complement the chicken to make your fajitas more flavorful. This particular Lawry’s seasoning packet is made specifically for chicken fajitas.

I used this brand of chicken fajita seasoning when I made fajitas for the first time at home. I’ve eaten chicken fajitas in restaurants before, but wasn’t sure what chicken fajita seasoning to use when I make them at home.

I don’t like to buy a lot of different spices that I know I won’t use often. This chicken fajita seasoning only costs $1.33 and I can buy it only when I need it, instead of having spices that may eventually go bad in my cupboard if I don’t use them often enough.

To Prepare

I followed the instructions on the back of the chicken fajita seasonings packet to begin preparing them. First, I added one tablespoon of oil to a skillet over medium-high heat. Second, I added onion and red pepper that I had already cut into strips.

When the vegetables were done cooking, I added another tablespoon of oil to the skillet, medium-high heat again, and added one pound of boneless, skinless, chicken breasts sliced thinly.

After the chicken was done, I added 1/3 cup of water and the entire chicken fajita seasoning packet. Bringing the water to a boil, I reduced the heat to low and simmered a few more minutes. Finally, I mixed the already sautéed vegetables back into the skillet.

The Results

When it was finished cooking, I placed the mixture on a warm tortilla (I used whole wheat tortillas) and added a spoonful of sour cream. I didn’t have to add salsa because it ends up being a sauce rather than if you just sprinkled some powdered spices over the chicken. The sauce kept the chicken from becoming too dry.

However, in my opinion, the sauce is a little too salty. I added 1/3 cup of water like the instructions said, but the sauce was a bit thick. Now when I make fajitas using this chicken fajita seasoning I thin the sauce by adding more water (not too much). This helps reduce the saltiness.

I was somewhat leery of trying a combination of spices in a packet like this chicken fajita seasoning packet because I can’t tolerate anything too spicy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Lawry’s chicken fajita seasoning adds enough spice without being too spicy and makes it extremely easy to make great chicken fajitas at home.
