Review of Canoe Bay in Chetek, Wisconsin

Organic Gardens

Located in Chetek, Wisconsin, is an affordable, luxury vacation getaway that is great for honeymoons or just a romantic weekend away. It is truly an oasis of sophistication nestled in the woods located right here in Wisconsin. It is the perfect place to escape reality for a few days.

I decided to book a surprise trip here for my husband for his 30th birthday present. I heard about this place called Canoe Bay which was located close to Rice Lake. I started researching it online, and after I saw the pictures, I knew this was the place I needed to book.

Canoe Bay is a 280 acre country estate just outside of Chetek in Northern Wisconsin that is for adults only, so there are no kids allowed on the premises, which is really nice. Also to help keep the area clean, there are no pets allowed and smoking is not allowed inside or out on the premises. We had to walk about a half mile away to have a smoke, which was fine with us.

To start off I want to let you know that the Inn is serene, peaceful, and slow paced for atmosphere. This is a place for you to escape the fast paced city life and just relax and enjoy yourself. So you will not find a lot of crazy entertainment, wild activities to do, or a bar to kick back and party at all night. So if slow paced and relaxing is not what you are looking for, I would not recommend staying here. But if you are looking for that type of vacation, then this is definitely the place you want to be at!

There are a few activities to do at the Inn. You can take a hike through miles of hiking trails through the beautiful woods and enjoy the breath taking scenery or head down to the beach and take a swim on one of the three private lakes that are spring-fed and crystal clear. Want to go on the water and look at the stars at night? Grab a canoe and paddle out to the middle of the lake and lay back and enjoy.

You can take a walk through the organic gardens and enjoy the smell of all of the Chef’s seasonal produce that is used to make your meals. The resort also offers kayaking, snowshoeing in winter, a fitness center and bike trails. If you are looking for a relaxing night inside the cabin, you can head over to the library and grab a book, magazine, movie or CD to enjoy.

Looking for other romantic options? The resort will also help you book a horse drawn carriage ride down a rustic Wisconsin road, set up picnics by the lake for you, book a private massage in your room and much more. If you want champagne, wine, flowers or a cheese tray in the room upon arrival just let them know also when you book it. They will take care of all of the small or big details for you. .

For dining, breakfast and lunch are delivered right to your room each morning and afternoon. For dinner you eat at the amazing lakeside dining room that is a prix fixe menu for you. Each person pays $75 and you get the ultimate 5 course meal served with award winning wine. The dress code is casual elegance in here.

The view of the lake from the restaurant is perfect. What a romantic place to have a candle lit dinner with your loved one. The only bad part is that wine is the main alcoholic beverage that the restaurant offers. No hard liquor choices and only a select few beer options.

For choices for lodging you have many different places to choose from. The have cottages that are deluxe, hillside, treetop, or lakeside. You can stay at the Inn where you can get a heavenly suite room, deluxe room or fireplace room. The architecture of the buildings were done by Frank Llyod Wright, who is known as America’s greatest architect of all time. His buildings are unique and very origional.

Then there are Villas that are absolutely one of the best places that I have ever stayed at in Wisconsin and I have stayed at many different locations in the state. The Villa was amazing and better than I expected it to be. Inside there is 2,000 square feet of space with French doors that lead you to an additional 1,500 square foot deck outside. I loved just sitting out on the deck looking at the water and watching the birds and other wildlife as I sipped on wine.

As you enter the Villa you will see high vaulted ceilings, large windows that brighten up the room and give you the perfect view of the lake and woods. The floors and walls are made from beautiful oak wood. In the combined dining room/living room you will see a large Chilton Limestone fireplace that is the focal part of the room.

The master bedroom was the room I completely feel in love with. In here was an Emperor sized bed which is larger than a King sized. It was situated in front of a large bay window giving you and amazing view. It was the perfect way to wake up each morning.

There is a second large stone in the master bedroom also that we had lit the whole weekend as we cuddled in front of it drinking wine. The bathroom in the bedroom has a 2 person tile steam shower, a Finnish sauna, a Jacuzzi tub and a third fireplace! Really, what more can you ask for? The accommodations here were well worth the $1000 I paid for it for the weekend. You have to splurge sometimes in life and when it was time to go, I did not want to leave this place.

But if you are looking for something a little cheaper, the other accommodations that I listed above are also very nice! There are a little smaller but still offer you amazing views, fireplaces, and decks to enjoy the outdoors on. You will not be disappointed staying here. Other guests informed me that the Heavenly suite was one of their favorite places to stay.

Overall I loved the place and plan on coming back soon! My husband was thrilled to have this as his present for a relaxing birthday weekend. We were able to spend time as a couple and rekindle our love for each other. I think it would be perfect for any aged couple that is looking for a weekend away that is full of romance and beautiful nature surrounding you. Accommodations were over the top, service was friendly, food and wine was amazing and the scenery was peaceful and perfect.
