Review: Lasko 36″ Tower Fan Model 2510

With today’s rising gas and electricity prices, heating and cooling your home can cost you a bundle. Even more so with the summer months ahead of us, it’s important to keep cool and and well hydrated and one of those ways to keep cool is to invest in a fan. There are quite a few variations of fans today ranging from pedestal, desk, window, box and tower to name a few. But which one do you choose if you don’t have a lot of space and want something that will cool a room down, your best bet is a tower fan. This is where my review comes into place regarding the Lasko 36″ Tower Fan.

We ourselves have very little room for a fan so a pedestal fan that has a wide base would not work for us. Plus with a crawling baby around I needed something a little bit more sturdy and unattractive to her since she wants to climb on everything she sees. When I went shopping for a fan that could do the job, I was pretty much already set on a tower fan but had not quite decided on a particular one. I was at CVS pharmacy when I was speaking with the cashier about fans and she told me about the Lasko they had on sale and so, I bought one.

When I came home my husband laughed at me because I had bought one, I had told him for weeks I wanted one and thus I had finally done so. He thought the fan wouldn’t blow very much because it looks so small compared to the other models with the big blades behind to pack some major wind, but was he in for a surprise!

Setup wasn’t hard at all out of the box, it was pretty much pull it out, stick the two bases together, screw them in, then plug and away you go. Getting the tape off of the bottom was a little hard as they had a plastic bag wrapped around the plug and then taped to keep the plug in place, but once it was all setup, we were good to go.

The fan has three levels of blowing power, low, medium and high which is very typical for any fan on the market. On the lowest setting the fan still blows far, but it’s not “whip your hair in your face” type wind. If you could describe wind, it would be gentle and soft with sweeping motions. On the next setting, this is where it gets powerful enough to pick up half a piece of paper if you have any laying down. While this may not compare to stronger fans such as the pedestal ones, it’s still enough to cool you off from coming in from a hot summer day and very capable of cooling off a room. On the next setting, if you personally ask me, it’s not that much different from the medium as it just seems to blow the air a little further but it’s still not enough to whip anything around if it’s near by unless it’s really light. I have pictures on a desk close to the fan and it never blows them away except for maybe ruffling them every once in awhile.

There are two things I really like about this fan, it’s quietness and the remote. Even on the high speed setting the fan just makes a small humming noise and I remember another Lasko pedestal fan that we used to have if you put it on high, you couldn’t even hear the TV with it on. This fan is not like that, in fact if you turned it on while watching a movie or show, you probably wouldn’t even have to increase the volume it’s so quiet. As for the remote, upon first look it seemed cheap looking and not so fancy as other remotes for fans I have seen. I think they might have done this for a few reasons, one being cheaper costs since it’s made of plastic and probably easier to replace if it breaks. The remote requires 2 AAA batteries (which are not included, so be prepared to buy some) and is handy enough to be put on the back handle of the fan for storage if not using it. It works from far away too because I can sit in the kitchen and tinker with the fan while cooking and it works seamlessly from at least 30 feet away.

So what are the great features of the fan? Well, let’s talk about them. One, it has a seven hour timer so let’s say you just want the fan to blow for a few hours you can set it up to blow in increments of 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 hours. Once it reaches the time limit, it will then shut off saving power and money on your electricity bill. Need I mention the remote again (yes, sometimes I’m very lazy) with the ability to turn the time, fan speed and oscillate the fan just from your fingertips without getting up from your seat. Don’t want to lug around a heavy fan to every room? Then this fan is perfect, it was so light when I picked up the box at the store and what makes it even better is a handle on the back to easily port it between rooms. The fan will oscillate cooling down the whole room not just one section, so if someone else is on the other side, they can also feel the effects. And lastly, how quiet it is. My daughter won’t sleep with loud noises going on and with other fans noise was too much. She loves this little fan and even sits in front of it as she loves the feeling of wind in her face. And lastly, how little space it takes up in our very small place.

Now, let’s get down to talking price. While online at lasko.com you can get the fan for $60, I’m quite sure if you do some shop comparison you can get a great deal on it. I only paid $40 dollars at CVS but I also had a coupon and it was on sale, so I’m sure if you look around in your area you will be able to find a great deal. I definitely recommend this little fan to anyone that has little space available and wants something to cool off your home this summer to save on the electricity bill. You will be very happy you did.
