It’s starting to get cold here in New York, and no matter how many scarves, coats and sweaters I bundle up in…I still catch that chill when outside.
There is nothing worse than having to get into my car in the morning when the temperature is in the 20’s. It’s like sitting and waiting for hypothermia to set in…seeing how it takes my old car a good 20 minutes to fully heat up.
Two nights ago while waiting on line at my local Walmart, I noticed something a bit intriguing staring me down on the shelf. Hot Hands 2. I had used Hot Hands before…and I knew that even though they were small and convenient. I always seemed to forget them at home before leaving in the morning. I mean let’s be honest, we only think about these stupid inventions we buy, when we need them. We never plan ahead.
Like yesterday morning, I’m in my car freezing, thinking, ‘damn, I left my frigging Hot Hands on the counter!
Well when you actually do remember to bring them along, they offer some warmth. Not much, but some.
The Hot Hands 2 come in packs of 2, that way you have one hot pack for each hand, or foot. Seeing how they are major annoying and uncomfortable under my gloves while driving, I put them in my butt pockets. I figured if I can’t comfortably warm my hands, I could at least warm my ass up a little right?
Not necessarily. I could barely feel the hot hands when I put them in my pocket. To feel it, I had to put my hands in my butt pocket…but there is just something wrong about walking around with your hands in your back pockets. People tend to stare when it looks like your feeling up your own keester.
How Hot Do They Get?
Well they do not necessarily get hot. They get warm, but in order for that warmth to be of any benefit to you, the packet has to have skin contact. It just does not heat up enough to saturate warmth through fabric.
The packs themselves are not very big either, so it only gives you one itty 2.5 inch by 1.5 inches worth of warmth. Hot Hands are basically a small square of warmth for a small part on your body. The warm feeling does not spread.
Hot Hands can be placed in shoes, but that is just straight up annoying. It bunches up, and is too thick to not feel uncomfortable.
How Do They Work?
You simply peel off the aluminum cover and shake the packet. It will take about a half hour for the Hot Hands to warm up…I find though that it takes much less time to heat up. The packets will give off 10 hours of warmth.
I tested it today, and I activated my hot hands at 7:30 am. It’s not 3:03, and the Hot Hands 2 are still kicking with warmth. I did not think I would get heat for this long, so I’m surprised.
Hot Hands 2 are environmentally friendly, and use non-toxic ingredients, so they are safe to use. Just don’t eat Hot Hands. It’s logic really.
Overall:
Hot Hands 2 is a great concept. They should though make larger packets, or make pads that stick to skin, so it is not so uncomfortable under articles of clothing.
I like them, but they seriously are one of those, try it once and toss it products. They are just too annoying to tote around under your gloves or shoes to want to buy time and time again.
