Recipe for Five Delicious Mexican Cocktails

Triple Sec

Mexican food definitely falls onto my top three list of food I like to eat and nothing goes better with Mexican food than the following cocktails. However, these are also fun and easy to make right at home anytime. With a few simple ingredients you can have these terrific drinks at your next gathering or even if dining alone.

Margarita – This is probably the first drink people think of when they think of a Mexican inspired cocktail. These are so easy to make and just as easy to make even frozen Margaritas. The ingredients needed to make a delicious Margarita is some Tequila and my preference is always Jose Cuervo, though choose your favorite brand. You will also need Triple Sec and lime juice and I don’t splurge on the Triple Sec, but I do think fresh lime juice is best, not bottled. All you need to do is rub a cut lime along the rim of your drink glass, dip it in either cocktail salt that you can get at the liquor store or a large grain sea salt. This is not the time to use regular table salt. In a shaker, combine 1 1/2 ounce of Tequila, 1 ounce of Triple Sec and 1 ounce of lime juice and pour over ice in your glass. If you prefer a frozen Margarita it is as easy as adding the same ingredients to your blender, add some ice and blend until smooth.

Tequila Sunrise – This might be a little more up your alley as opposed to the tartness of a Margarita. The Tequila Sunrise is a little sweeter, but still has Tequila as its main ingredient. You can mix the Tequila and orange juice together before serving, but I would hold off on the grenadine until you pour the mixture into a glass. It’s just a nicer way to present the drink to a guest and would be best served with a large toothpick with a couple cherries which can be used to stir the drink. To make this cocktail just add 1 part Tequila to 3 parts orange juice, without pulp, and stir. Once you pour this over ice, add 1/2 ounce of grenadine slowly to the glass and serve. It would also be nice served with an orange slice.

Bloody Maria – If you like Bloody Mary’s and Bloody Caesar’s, then I think you’ll really love a Bloody Maria. It’s pretty much just a Bloody Mary and everyone has their own variety of these they love, but you’re going to make it with Tequila instead of vodka. That’s all there is to it.

White Russian – I definitely prefer the White Russian to the Black Russian and that’s because I just love to have the cream which is the difference that makes it a White Russian. I’m guessing most of you probably didn’t even realize that the main ingredient is a Mexican product. For a White Russian just mix 1 part Kahlua with 1 part vodka and 1 part cream or milk if you prefer and serve over ice.

Last but not least I cannot leave out my favorite Mexican drink on a hot summer day or when I’m eating hot Mexican food and that is an ice cold Corona beer with a slice of lime. It is easy, tasty and when served ice cold, can’t be beat for a great beer if you ask me.
