Real Jobs for Stay-at-Home Moms

Earn Money from Home

Many stay-at-home moms today would love to find a way to make money without sacrificing their ability to be at home with their kids. Some simply want to find something extra to do during the day while the kids are napping or at preschool. Others want to earn some extra cash so the family budget isn’t quite so tight.

There are numerous opportunities for stay-at-home moms to sell various items like housewares, candles, fashion items, and even health supplements. These generally require you to sell to your friends, and many moms simply don’t want to host parties that make their friends feel obligated to buy various items. So are there legitimate jobs that stay-at-home moms can do beyond these types of jobs? The answer is yes, and here are some great ideas:

Freelance Writer: If you have some writing skills, you can turn your skills into money. You can try to find clients to work for, such as through Elance, or you can sign up to work for a web content site like TheContentAuthority.com. You may also get paid to write your own articles through sites like Yahoo! Voices, HubPages, and others. You can control your work load, and so this is a perfect job for a mom who only wants to work a few hours a day and who doesn’t want to commit to working every day.

Data Entry: There are numerous opportunities available for people to work from home in the data entry field. Generally, most employers simply want to ensure that you are a competent and fast typist before hiring you on, so there may be a typing test, and these often are jobs that pay you by the hour. Others may hire you on as a contract worker and pay you per assignment.

Medical Transcriptionist: This is unfortunately a field that has a lot of scams associated with it, but it is a legitimate job that can pay rather nicely, too. In most cases, a legitimate transcriptionist job requires you to have special training. This may be obtained by attending a special program at a community college or vocational school. It does provide opportunities for a regular 40-hour work week, which may be suitable for stay-at-home mothers whose kids have already started elementary school. It may also allow for part-time work, including evening and weekend work.

Customer Service: Many companies today are relocating their customer service departments out of a corporate environment and into the homes of at-home workers. These jobs often require you to commit to working certain scheduled hours per week Of you will be required to have a fast internet connect and a land-line telephone. This is a job that is not ideal if you have children running around your home during your work hours, as you will be on the phone. However, if your children attend preschool or are of school-age, this is a great opportunity to consider. These jobs are often available with some flexibility in shifts, and so you may even be able to work in the evenings in a quiet room of the house when a spouse is home to care for the kids.

When choosing a job to pursue, you should first consider the logistics of working from home with kids. This is especially important if your children will be home while you are trying to work. If you will not be able to work without interruptions, it may be best to pursue a job such as a per-assignment data entry job or freelance writing. After you narrow down job opportunities that are more logistically suitable for your own work-at-home environment, you can then consider other factors such as the compensation and finding an employer or client to work with.

The fact is that many stay-at-home moms today are already work-at-home moms, and you can be a work-at-home mom, too. Consider some of these great work-at-home opportunities today, and then take the next step towards finding a job that you can start working at to earn money from home.
