Where does one find a purpose driven career? Often, the very career niche you are in just needs to be reassessed as to how fulfilled you are in your work.

The change when considering a career change is often within the employee — a change of heart, an analysis of one’s calling, followed by a reframing of one’s mission.

Perhaps just asking this simple question is all that is needed for a change of heart to take place: “Do I need to make a career change or do I need to be changed?”

As a chaplain, I believe such a change is a spiritual transformation through the grace of God. But that is just one aspect of a change of heart. Once that inner transformation takes place, you may just stay where you are, but as a new you.

Of course there is the distinct possibility that such a change of heart will lead to a change in career direction. I believe that the change of heart is a spiritual experience when we open our eyes to God’s purpose for our lives and our careers. Purpose speaks to the inner motivation that shape not only our career choices but our lives.

But once you decide it is time to change career direction, it is as if you have given yourself permission to explore new career possibilities. Defining personal purpose opens the door for discovering a career path that fulfills your God given purpose.

As I have surfed the internet, I often see employment ad links that appeal to the career change candidate’s sense of purpose. They want to hire purpose driven job seekers. Such employers will spell out their purpose, appealing to purpose driven job seekers to align themselves with a purpose driven employer.

Look For Job Opportunity Links On Corporate Web Pages
I always look at the “We are hiring” links on the web pages I visit. While many websites are totally new to me, there are those that belong to companies and organizations I already have a relationship with. Many of the companies I do business with look to hiring their own customers — the people who believe in them enough to buy their products.

Recently I came across a web page that was entitled “Top 10 Reasons to Work for Our Company” and thought, “Wow! this company knows how to appeal to purpose driven job seekers”.

Check out this list and ask yourself, “Would I want to work for this employer?”.

That statement by this innovative purpose driven company appeals to purpose motivated job candidates by defining how that purpose could be fulfilled by working for them.

1. This innovative purpose driven company helps people solve problems: With millions of visitors every month, our unnamed purpose driven company has become an essential part of everyday life like a good friend connecting people with the information they need to live great lives.

2. This problem solving employer appeals to employees who want to make a difference in our world: They do so by saying that working for them is “Being a part of something that matters and working on products in which you can believe is remarkably fulfilling”.

3. This people focused company understands that appreciation is the best motivation, so they created a fun and inspiring workspace that purpose driven workers would be thrilled to be a part of. Therefore they provide “on-site doctor and dentist; massage and exercise; professional development opportunities; on-site day care; shoreline running trails; and plenty of snacks to get you through the day”.

4. As a company that understands employees, they have created a fun workplace atmosphere: They even say right up front that work and play are not mutually exclusive, saying “It is possible to code and pass the puck at the same time.” My guess is that they are appealing to 30 something career change applicants.

They prove it by offering a variety of benefits, including a choice of medical programs, company-matched 401(k), stock options, maternity and paternity leave, and much more.

7. Focusing on creativity, this employer is open to anyone and everyone, no matter their past or looks: The people this innovative purpose driven company hires come from a wide array of backgrounds. They do so in their list of present employees, described as “former neurosurgeons, CEO’s, and U.S. puzzle champions to alligator wrestlers and former-Marines.”

8. Understanding the big picture, they are an international company, meeting their unique niche throughout the world. They state that they are “worldwide, uniting the world, one user at a time. 10. Understanding that workers want to like their jobs, this purpose driven organization, knows how to create community. Appealing to employees looking for an employer who makes people feel special, they offer this invitation: “There is such a thing as a free lunch after all. In fact we have them every day: healthy, yummy, and made with love.”
