Product Review: The PedEgg

Pedegg

When it comes to the quest for perfectly smooth, beautiful feet, I have tried just about every type of product on the market – exfoliating creams, pumice stones, foot files and even scary razors that slice off chunks of skin with one wrong move. So, when I saw an advertisement for PedEgg on television, I was skeptical (particularly because As Seen on TV products so often underperform or are complete scams), but decided to check it out.

I went online and read reviews on several websites. The reviews were mixed, but there were many more positive reviews than negative, and I decided that at about 10 bucks, it was worth a shot.

The PedEgg is an ergonomically shaped stainless steel foot file with 138 precision micro files. Basically, it looks like a specially designed vegetable grater and works much the same way, only this particular file is designed to be safe to the touch and to gently remove calluses and dry skin by “shaving” the skin off a little bit at a time. The PedEgg also comes with two emery pads for smoothing after using the file and is easy to empty and clean.

The first time I used the PedEgg, I sat on the sofa watching a movie while doing just what the instructions told me to do – applying gentle pressure in a back and forth motion. Because the PedEgg takes off such a small amount with each pass, I spent the majority of the movie filing, but since I was watching the movie at the same time, it really didn’t bother me that this initial session took that long. Plus, shaving small amounts at a time is also what makes it so much safer to use, and I can do something I enjoy while I’m filing away my dry skin, so I consider that a fair trade off.

I probably could have done a bit that night and then worked on it more the next day, rather than all in one sitting. If I had done that I might have also avoided the slight discomfort I had when walking on my heels the next couple of days (I believe this is from getting down to the fresh, new skin). But, the disgusting amount of shavings that I dumped after that session, plus the smoothness that I haven’t felt in years – even after a professional pedicure – made it well worth it. After that initial session, I now use the PedEgg about once a week for 5-10 minutes.

One downfall is that the shavings will come out through the file if you turn the PedEgg upside down. I limit this by trying to keep the file face up and emptying it often. And, really, this is a minimal flaw that is easy to work around.

Overall, the PedEgg is a great product that I now swear by and recommend to all my friends. It is easy to use and is a great way to save money on pedicures and to have perfect sandal-ready feet all year round. To maintain your new, smooth feet and improve the texture even more, I recommend following with a moisturizing cream and then putting on socks – or, for a more intense moisturizing treatment, apply cream, wrap your feet in plastic wrap and then put on the socks.
