Product Review: Rain-X Glass Treatment Wipes

Windshield Wipers

My husband hates driving in the rain, and it seems that no matter how new our windshield wipers are, they never give the visibility that either of us want. So I wasn’t surprised one day when my husband came home from the grocery store with a package of rain-x glass treatment wipes.

Product Description

These wipes come in a reclosable moisture lock snap pack, containing 25 pre moistened wipes. They are generously sized, measuring 7″ x 9″. Instead of coming in a ziplock top pouch (like baby wipes), they have a plastic window in the middle of the package that opens to remove a cloth, and snaps shut tightly to close. There is a small indentation that your finger can slip under, and opening the window is very easy.

How To Use

Using these windshield wipes is as easy as washing a window. The directions instruct you to apply in a circular, overlapping motion. They do a nice job at removing dirt and grime, but they do leave a film, or haze on the glass. The package says to buff out the haze with a dry cloth or paper towel. It took several clean paper towels in order for me to get the windshield and back window dry. It also required quite a bit of elbow grease to remove the film completely. The directions suggest to sprinkle a few drops of water on the windshield while buffing to produce crystal clear results, but I didn’t find that suggestion overly helpful.

Do They Work?

Absolutely they do. The first time I drove my car in the rain, the effect was a little creepy. It seemed like all of the rain drops were having a race to see which one could get to the top of my windshield the fastest! Although the scene took some getting used to, I did NOT need to even use my windshield wipers in order to see. The water wicked away, as if the glass was coated with teflon, the raindrops didn’t stick or stay on the glass. Although it hasn’t snowed yet here in Alaska, the product does claim to repel snow, sleet and mud, as well as rain.

There are no ingredients listed on the packaging, other than it contains denatured alcohol, and indeed these do have a very strong alcohol scent. You will definitely want to wash your hands when you are finished applying the product.

Thoughts

What a great idea! I not only use these on my windshield, but I applied them to my back window as well. Neither of our cars has the single wiper on our back window, so this is the perfect solution! In a heavy rain, the rain will not sheet up on the windshield, although I do still use my wipers in these instances, but I don’t need to use them at the high speed that I normally would. The wind of travelling along the highway helps the rain-x to blow the rain right off my windshield, and I am anxious to see how it will help us to remove ice this winter.

One application lasts us about a month before I notice the water fails to bead up. Considering I get the same results each time, this package would take care of both of our cars for one year!

The product also comes in a liquid form, but we find the wipes extremely convenient, and we can store them in our glove box.

There are a few precautions to heed. Keep away from any heat, sparks or flames. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
