When it comes to eyelashes, I got the short end of the lash.
Not only are my lashes short, they are also sparse and thin. In most cases, you can only actually see my eyelashes when you lean in close to my face and squint your eyes a little bit.
I’ve spent most of my adult life looking for mascara that would actually give me visible lashes. I tried numerous brands and styles. I tried drugstore brands and designer brands. Many left streaks and smudges. Others were clumpy and lumpy.
Then I found Maybelline XXL Volume + Length Microfiber Mascara.
About the product
Maybelline XXL Microfiber Mascara is one tube with two separate sections. The first section is white, and contains little tiny microfiber threads that are designed to add length and volume to your lashes. The second part is black, and contains thickening and lengthening mascara.
This mascara is available at regular drugstores, and costs approximately the same amount as other drugstore brands and styles.
Using the product
The first step is to apply the white microfibers to your lashes. The white part of the tube contains a typical mascara wand. Use this wand to apply the fibers to the ends of your lashes. (You can also apply the fibers to the middle of your lashes, but I found this caused clumping.)
The second step is to coat the lashes – and the microfibers – with the mascara. Apply as you would regular mascara with the provided wand. A second coat could be used for thicker, darker lashes, but I found one coat was all that was necessary.
The results
After trying this product, I was pleased to see eyelashes on my face! Maybelline XXL Volume + Length mascara did actually increase the length and thickness of my lashes. For the first time in my life, I felt a wee bit glamorous.
The mascara lasted through the day with no smudging. There were no streaks or raccoon eyes by the time night arrived. Maybelline XXL Volume + Length Mascara did not run or flake, even though I did not use the waterproof version. And the product easily and quickly washed away with soap and water at the end of the evening.
Some people may find the two step process to be time-consuming or annoying. But for me, it’s worth it to dramatically change the look of my lashes. All in all, it only adds a minute or so to my regular makeup routine, so it doesn’t require much extra effort.

If you’re looking for a simple, inexpensive way to lengthen and thicken your lashes, you may want to consider Maybelline XXL Volume + Length Mascara. Although there are other ways to change your lashes – like false eyelashes – this mascara provides extra length for very little cost and time.
