Andis has been manufacturing professional hair clippers and trimmers since 1921 that started with production in the Andis family basement. From these humble beginnings the Andis Company has brought not only professional clippers and trimmers to the barber and beauty industry but to the consumer as well. Andis manufactures clippers and trimmers for professional use, home use and animal grooming as well as other hair care products like curling irons and hair dryers.

The professional quality of a product is not for use by just the professional such as a barber or hair stylist, I have found that buying professional products means you will be getting a high quality product with the durability and quality that will last. The Andis Power Fade clipper is just the sort of product I mean when I talk about purchasing a product for my own home use but from a supplier of professionals and business use.

The Andis Power Fade is a professional quality hair clipper with the durability of ceramic for the cutting blade. The blades on a clipper have two parts, the moving cutting blade and the steady in place anvil that acts as the other part of the cutting system. To use a ceramic blade as the moving cutting part is ingenious given the lasting sharpness of ceramic as a cutting tool. The blade stays cool and does not clog from the blades heating and expanding as well as staying sharper from less friction.

The Andis power Fade is great to use as it stays cool for much longer than a conventional steel blade clipper and does not get overly hot at all. I used it on my son, okay my wife did for a haircut and the blades did not warm up all that much. You could actually put your fingers on them through the whole hair cut whereas a conventional blade would be so hot you could burn your fingers and had to let the clipper rest.

The Andis Power Fade may be a bit on the pricier side at about $90 from the Andis site but for a product that will wear much longer than a steel blade and stay extremely sharp you are certainly getting your monies worth. The Andis Power Fade performs with the same quality of a professional clipper for the hair cutting we did at our home over the last month and makes a great home hair care product.

I went to a local hair care supply store to see if they had any guide combs and the receptionist also mentioned that they have that model and it does sell very well. She recommended it as it does stay sharp and they do not have to keep up on maintenance as much with the ceramic blade as other types. They also had the combs for it which made using the clipper for my wife much easier.

In the features it says that you can zero gap the blades but I found that no adjustment was at all necessary with the clipper straight out of the box. The clippers worked extremely well and were very quiet, quieter than a smaller Wahl clipper I am also reviewing. I checked using a Scosche Sound Meter and found that the Andis Power Fade was about 7 to 10 dBc quieter than the Wahl MiniPro clipper at the same distance of about a foot from the meter.

When using the clipper you really notice the difference a ceramic blade makes in your hair cutting not only in the lack of heat but in how smooth it cuts. The blade seems to sail right through the hair and does a great job with almost no tugging and pulling. Everyone expects at least some pulling and tugging when getting their hair cut but this was the first thing both my wife and my son noticed, or noticed the lack of.

My son gets the buzz cuts for a hair cut every so often and his last one was a two to three inch long hair cut down to the ¾ inch length using a guide. The Andis Power Fade did a great job and just sailed through the cutting easily. The clipper cuts so smoothly and effortlessly that it is amazing. I even got to try my hand at it and was impressed with how smooth it feels when cutting, sorry about the sloppy job though.

The Andis Power Fade is a professional quality clipper and does a remarkably great job in cutting hair effortlessly and smoothly. I am very impressed with the Andis clippers and highly recommend them even for home use, a good tool is worth the expense.
