Plum Fromage Frais: Baby Food Review

Arthritis Treatment, Digestive Problems

There are many different foods for babies in the dairy aisle of the supermarket, but I was drawn to the Plum ultimate organic baby fromage frais because of the intriguing flavours.

Three flavours come in the six-pack of fromage frais pots. There are two of each of these flavours: strawberry and chamomile, peach and sweet fennel, and raspberry and rosehip. Not only are these interesting, but subtle flavours, the botanical additions have been carefully chosen for their healing properties.

Chamomile is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps to soothe digestive problems, and has also been used to calm colicy babies. This combination makes it perfect for babies who are starting solid foods and often suffer from disrupted digestion as their bodies adjust to real foods. The chamomile combined with the strawberry makes a sweet and subtle taste that is light and summery. (To learn more about chamomile, click here)

Fennel also helps to promote healthy digestion and heal digestive problems, and so cooled fennel tea has often been promoted for young children. (To learn more about fennel and the plant’s medicinal properties, click here) At first, you only taste the peach, and then the fennel comes more as an aftertaste. The fennel cuts through the sweetness to make the fromage frais smooth and mild.

Rosehips have primarily received media coverage for their potential as an arthritis treatment, but they are incredibly nutritious as well. Rosehips are high in many vitamins, including Vitamin C, and they are a good source of iron, which weaning babies really need. They are also a folk remedy for constipation, a common complaint among babies and toddlers. It makes a lovely combination with the raspberries.

I admit that I tasted all of the flavours, and they were delicious. My seven-month-old loved them as well, and enjoyed them both on their own or combined with baby cereal and/or pureed fruit. I like them even better because I know that Plum is dedicated to making “organic superfoods for babies”. Their food is organic and 100% natural. Unlike most fromage frais pots-even the ones marketed as for babies-these contain no added salt or sugar. They are suitable for vegetarians and free from preservatives. The ingredient lists are full of responsibly sourced, organic ingredients (many studies have confirmed theadvantages of organic produce-click here for an example. They are not only tasty, but healthy as well.

I paid £1.99 for the pack, so it was a bit more expensive than the fromage frais that I would normally buy for my children. However, I feel like the product was of such a high quality that it is worth the price. My seven-month-old baby started eating solid foods about a month ago, and normally when she eats anything with dairy she spits it back up again. She ate all of these flavours without any problems, and really enjoyed all three flavours.

I plan on buying these again and would highly recommend them!
