Places to Find Gold in Alaska

Fairbanks Alaska, Gold Mining, Nome, Nome Alaska, Panning for Gold

Alaska has been known as one of the top gold mining states around the world. Many people from all over the world visit Alaska just to try their luck in finding gold at one of the many locations known throughout Alaska where gold can be found.

The following is a list of known areas where gold can be found in Alaska:

Bachelor Creek is open for gold panning, running sluice boxes, metal detectors, rocker boxes and small dredges up to 6 inches. Bachelor Creek is about eighty miles above Fairbanks on Steese Highway.

Caribou Creek located on the Matanuska River Area is open to gold enthusiasts for panning, running sluices and dredges as well as open for metal detectors. This mining area was created by the Alaska Government as a recreational gold mining location.

Chugach National Forest is located between the towns of Seward and Hope. Most all streams located within the forest are open for panning for gold, running sluices and dredges.

Dalton Highway between Fairbanks and Prudhoe is open to gold finders for panning, using a pick or shovel, running a sluice box or scanning with a metal detector.

The town of Eagle, Alaska is open to prospecting for gold. This area is home to one of the original finds of gold in Alaska. There are many streams that run throughout the town and on the outside of the town that gold prospectors can hunt for gold.

Hatcher Pass Recreational Mining Area is located northeast of the town of Wasilla. You can prospect for gold along the Little Susitna River and all the tributaries.

Nome Beach located in Nome, Alaska is open for gold prospecting. You can pan for gold right on the beach and this is one of the most common areas where tourists go to pan for gold. You can find gold right on the beach within the sand.

The Pedro Dome area located in Fairbanks, Alaska is open for gold prospecting. However, there is usually only one acre open for gold diggers to find gold.

Peters Creek is a recreational mining area that is managed by the State of Alaska. You must request permission to use any suction dredges along the creek.

These are just a few of the known areas to hunt for gold. However, as you drive along the highways in Alaska feel free to stop and talk to locals about panning for gold in the area. The locals will be able to tell you where the good spots are to find gold. If you’re real adventurous you should go out into the wilderness areas of Alaska and just start panning for gold in one of the numerous streams throughout the state. Basically, there’s gold all throughout Alaska and if you have the time you’ll be able to find a spot where you can score some big gold finds in the state.
