PETCO Comfort Control Dog Harnesses

Petco

Our 10-year-old Silky Terrier does not like to be on a leash, and because my husband allows her to pull when we take her on a walk, I purchased a harness for her to wear. Collars were choking her, and I felt a harness would be much more comfortable.

After trying out numerous styles of harnesses on the market, we ended up liking the step-in style. Recently at my local PetCo store, I found a brand new PetCo Comfort Control Dog Harnesses that I just had to have!

Description

The PetCo Comfort Control Dog Harnesses does not look like your typical dog harness! Most harnesses are made of thin nylon straps, that can sometimes dig into the dogs skin. The PetCo Comfort Control Dog Harnesses reminded me of a piece of clothing as much as it did a dog harness!

This harness is made from a nylon and polyester blend of fabric, and it was available in black, blue, and pink (I chose the pink for our little girl, to my husbands dismay). The front of the harness is several inches wide, rather than a 1/2″ strap, and it has a matching fold over edging around the raw edges to prevent the fabric from fraying.

Fit

Putting this on a dog is very easy. The dogs head fits through the largest hole, and there are also two large holes for the front feet to slip through. There is a pink nylon strap that goes around the chest of the dog, and this has a plastic buckle on the left side, which allows you to adjust the diameter of the harness. On the right side is another plastic buckle, which you can click in place quickly. To release, you simply push down on the top of the buckle and it will slip from under the clasp.

There is a small loop that extends out from the “yoke”, and the strap slips through this loop. The harness acts like a collar around the entire head, then travels undeer the chest, and then there is a metal D shaped ring on the middle of the back strap, that connects it back up to the top.

My Thoughts

The harnesses that I have used (before I found the PetCo Comfort Control Dog Harnesses), had two adjustable straps. The neck strap was adjustable as well as the chest strap. With the PetCo Comfort Control Dog Harnesses, only the chest portion is adjustable. Because of this, I don’t know if this harness would “grow” with your dog.

It fits nicely on our 10 year old, 10 pound dog (the small size fits dogs 8-10 pounds), but I know this would have been to large for her when she was a puppy. I would suggest making this purhase when your dog is fully grown, because it is a little more on the expensive side. It retailed for almost $20.00, but PetCo had them on sale for $6 off.

The material is lightweight and breathable, and while I can’t say this is comfortable, it surely looks comfortable! The material is so soft and wide, it’s more like putting a cropped shirt on my dog than it is a harness. I love the durable D shaped metal ring, which is very secure, and won’t break. The leash attaches easily to this ring because it’s a nice larger size.

This is an amazing harness! I don’t know why somebody didn’t think of it sooner, but leave it to PetCo to come up with this design. I think it’s a real winner.
