When making arrangements for a Margarita party or a Tequila shoot out what’s priority number one? The Tequila of course! Having been to Mexico on several occasions and sampled the local flavors, it’s safe to say that I’ve developed quite a pallet for Tequila. There’s no doubt that 100% agave is the way to go when drinking Tequila. Famous ole’ Jose Cuervo is not pure Tequila but is alright for Margaritas. If you’re going to make Margaritas a mid-grade Tequila is O.K. to use, because, let’s face it, the taste is masked by the juice. However, if you are going to drink shots or sip it chilled, quality and flavor is very important. Almost everyone who has had Tequila or is thinking about drinking it has heard of Patron. It’s high priced and comes in a pretty bottle, that’s wrapped and packaged in a box. All the rappers and R&B; stars rave and even sing about it. It’s alright. . . goes down smooth, warms the throat, and doesn’t leave an extremely strong aftertaste, and as long as you don’t mix it with beer or some other strong liquor, you won’t end up with a headache the next day.
I just get held up on the price, especially since I know that American liquor stores charge about $45 too much. Go to Mexico and check it out, seriously! Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, and yes, when drinking Tequila high price usually means good quality, but like everything in popular culture some things are over rated and consequently over priced. Let me turn you on to something I discovered about 5 months ago. . . it’s called Milagro Reposado. I was in my local liquor store debating with my friend, who just so happens to be Mexican, about what Tequila we should buy for a Tequila shoot out, when the man at the cash register urged me to try something new. He told me that if I enjoyed Patron and she enjoyed Cazadores, but didn’t care much for the prices, to try Milagro (which by the way, means Miracle). Milagro was about half the price and also 100% agave, so being the adventurous women that we are we decided to try it. Wow, it holds true to it’s name. Milagro is easy to shoot or sip, exceptionally smooth, warming, doesn’t leave an after taste, definitely no headache the next day, and leaves a little extra money in your wallet. In fact, about two weeks later we went back and bought a larger bottle to share with some friends. It’s so smooth that one of my friends, who doesn’t even like to shoot Tequila, was drinking it with ease! I urge you to take the Milagro challenge, you won’t be sorry, and well, if you don’t like it you don’t have to buy it again, but it will not have been an expensive experiment. In the Patron Vs. Milagro challenge, the Miracle Tequila, Milagro, wins hands down.
