Outdoor Summer Games for Adults

Water Balloons

Summertime will be here soon and with it are backyard parties, beach outings and picnics in the park. Make these events more memorable with these fun outdoor games geared more towards adults! Wet or dry, these games are sure to add life to your party.

Box or Bucket
(From the website “The Source For Youth Ministry” )

Goal: The object of this game is to avoid getting wet by building a wall of cardboard boxes around your team. The team with the least amount of people who got wet wins.

Materials Needed: 10-20 medium to large cardboard boxes, blindfolds, buckets, and water.

Mechanics: Blindfold a group of 8-10 people and place them among the boxes. Tell them they have 2 minutes to form a wall around themselves using the boxes. The wall doesn’t have to be higher than one box, but it must go completely around the group. The wall can’t have any openings larger than 3 inches. When time is up, for every gap in their wall wider than 3″, a bucket of water will be thrown on the group. Any member of the group inadvertently left outside the wall will receive his/her own bucket of water!

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

This is a fun game that originally came from a game show in the Philippines called “Wowowee” and doesn’t require any kind of props. All you need is someone who’s fun and energetic to play as moderator and a group of 10 or more people to participate. Having a wireless mic would be helpful but not required.

Goal: The last person left would be the winner

Mechanics: The moderator will point at each player. Person 1 will yell “Hip hip!” while bent over clapping his hands between his legs when pointed to. Person 2 will yell “Hooray!” with both arms raised when pointed to. Each player will alternate yelling “Hip Hip” and “Hooray” when the moderator points to him or her. Whoever makes a mistake by either yelling out the wrong phrase or doing the wrong action would be eliminated.

Water Balloon Dodgeball (From the website Fun-Attic)

Goal: The team with the last person left dry will be the winner

Materials Needed: Water balloons, two plastic tubs

Mechanics: Divide participants into two groups of equal number of people – one team each on opposite sides of a line. Each side will have a plastic tub containing about 5 water balloons each per player. Players alternate throwing water balloons at the opposing teams. Whoever gets hit is out of the game.

Water Balloon Burst

Goal: The couple who bursts all their water balloons first wins!

Materials Needed: Water balloons, chairs

Mechanics: Have the guy sit on the chair with a water balloon in between his knees. His partner would then sit on his lap to try and burst the balloon. The game will continue until one couple pops all their water balloons and declared the winner.

The Clothesline

Goal: The team who assembled the longest line of clothing wins!

Mechanics: Form teams of 5 players and above. The goal is for the team members to remove an article of clothing they’re currently wearing an put it on the ground to form a clothes line. They can be creative on how the pieces are assembled to make their line longer.
