Operation Pizza Pie: a Review of Publix GreenWise Market Organic Spinach and Feta Pizza

Scenario: May 4, 2012, 1900 hours. It was a typical Friday night. We didn’t know what we wanted for dinner. We were debating whether to go out, order a pizza, or stay home. We decided to order a pizza. But, since we didn’t have any cash to tip a delivery driver and we hadn’t ordered a pizza to our new apartment. Ordering delivery would be a pain.

Intelligence Briefing: Publix had recently run a television commercial for a frozen organic pizza. It looked good on TV. The pizza was on sale for $3.99 (a $1.90 savings off of the regular price). Since our budget was tight, my wife and I decided to try it. She made a list of a few items. I geared up for the mission. Our location was Atlanta, the threat of crime was omni-present, I strapped on my flat black Timex Expedition camper-style watch.

The Mission:
I hopped in a small commercial sport utility vehicle known as the 2006 Toyota Highlander and made the dash to our nearby Publix grocery with a short shopping list. The Highlander is perfect suburban camouflage. My main target was to procure two Publix GreenWise Market Organic Spinach and Feta Pizzas. My secondary target was to obtain two Totino’s Pepperoni Pizzas as backup. I procured the targeted pizzas and called back to base so that my wife could preheat the oven.

Intelligence Gathered:
Close examination of the captured frozen pizza revealed that it was about 10-inches in diameter, boxed in cardboard, and wrapped in plastic wrap. Once we had captured the pizza, we could analyze key documents like the table of ingredients and marketing copy on the packaging. We learned that the pizza was composed of an organic wheat crust, organic tomato sauce, organic mozzarella cheese, organic spinach, and organic feta cheese. Even the spices incorporated into the sauce were organic.

Nutrition Information:
A single Publix GreeWise Market Spinach and Feta Pizza provides 3 servings. According to packaging, a third of the pizza contains 210 calories, 8 grams of fat (4 grams of saturated fat), 420 milligrams of sodium, 26 grams of total carbs, 2 grams of dietary fiber, 3 grams of sugars, and 10 grams of protein. That means a guy can eat a whole pizza and only get 78 carbohydrates. Men, if you give a little pizza to your dog, then you hit your target of 75 grams of carbs for a meal.

Preparation Instructions:
I used my Kershaw 1550 ST Blackout Folding Knife to cut open the pizza wrapper so that we could continue our analysis and actually eat something. We followed the simple directions on the box and baked the pizza at 425-degrees for 11 to 14 minutes. When we pulled the pizza out the cheese was melted and the crust was golden. It was ready.

After Action Report: The Publix GreenWise Market Organic Spinach and Feta Pizza was simply awesome. It had a perfect crust, perfect sauce, perfect cheese, and excellent toppings. This pizza turned out better than a California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza and had a light, flavorful, taste. It proved to be an excellent choice for dinner and cost $20 to $35 less than eating out at a pizzaria. Publix – Mission Accomplished!
