Hermann, Missouri will host four weekends of Oktoberfest fun in October, The small town is called Missouri’s Rhine Village, because of it located in the center of the state;s wine region.

Hermann is a great getaway destination about an hour and half hours drive west of St. Louis, MO. Hermann was honored by Midwest Living Magazine, which rated Hermann number 24 in their list of “100 Best Small-Town Getaways.” Hermann has an Old World charm that attracts visitors. Much of downtown is a historic district. More than 15 buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places.

German immigrants moved to Hermann in 1836. With the exception of the prohibition years, It is believed that the Hermann area was selected by German scouts who chose the area because of its similarity to the Rhine Valley. The German immigrants moved from Philadelphia because their countrymen were being assimilated into American society. The immigrants dreamed of building a new city that would be “German in every particular”.

The Deutschheim State Historic Site, and The Historic Hermann Museum both commemorate the German heritage in Hermann. The Hermann Museum endeavors to preserved the historic past the of Hermann. The German School was used as a elementary school form the time it was build in 1871 until 1955. Today, the school building is used as a museum and gift shop. The Deutschheim State Historic Site preserves German American culture, heritage, crafts, folkways foodways, life styles and traditions with visitors.

Oktoberfest is held in Hermann on the first four weekends of October. Events that will take place over the four weekend festival include tours of the Deutschheim State Historic Site, tours of the German School Museum, music in the Hermannhof Festhalle, German Beer Garten, Red Barn Crafts and Antiques, tours of the White House Hotel & Museum. Arts & Crafts Festival and a self guided tour of the Artists of Wine country. The Masonic Lodge Cabooses will served brats, burgers and lemonade.

Hermann has been a wine producing area since the 1800′, with the exception of the prohibition years. Most area wineries will be hosting special events during Oktoberfest. The Hermann Wine Trail consists of seven charming family owned wineries on a meandering 20 mile route between Hermann and New Haven. Wineries in the Hermann area include: Adam Puchta Winery, Robller Winery, Stone Hill Winery, Hermannhof Winery, Phoenix Winery, Oak Glenn Winery, Bommarito Winery Wenwood Farm Winery and Bias Winery. The wineries are the main tourist attraction in Hermann.

Stone Hill Winery features Vintage Restaurant on their grounds. After touring the ancient cellars and production facility and wine tasting, have German cuisine or American dishes at this restaurant.
